Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock - Image 1Major video game publisher Activision has posted some impressive figures in its Q2 2007 fiscal report. It announced a historic sales week for flagship title Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (Sony PS3, Microsoft Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, PC), posted significant revenue hikes, and predicted strong sales in Q3 of 2007.

From a shade over U$ 24 million posted as gross revenues in Q2 of 2006, Activision leaped to US$ 317.7 million in fiscal 2007. Strangely enough, profits were only gauged at US$ 700,000 which prompted some to question how this came to be.

Activision clarifies that the biggest reason for this is the acquisition of UK-based development studio Bizarre Creations. The move brought net earnings down, and left no per-share incentives to stock owners. Activision, however, assures everyone that bigger things are to come and this is a temporary issue.

If Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock's first week earnings of over US$ 100 million are any indication, Q3 should be a lot sweeter for Activision. In fact, the company predicts US$ 1 billion in gross earnings in the next quarter riding on the strength of Guitar Hero III and titles like Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Transformers: The Game.

Activision also announced continued relationships with Dreamworks, which might indicate more Shrek games in the future. Also announced was a game tie-in of upcoming movie Monsters versus Aliens and another Superhero title yet to be named.

Activision is regarded by many as one of the best publishers in the gaming industry for the quality of the titles that it releases across every major platform. Its "hands-off" approach when it comes to developers' creations has made Activision a favorite among studios.
