Simpsons countdown site - Image 1

We've been going crazy waiting for the Simpsons movie to come out, then this happens. Electronic Arts has put up a countdown site which just screams of "the Simpsons". Now what can we make out of all this?

As Kotaku pointed out "a classic Simpson's yellow screen featuring the title 'XXII' done in a mock GTA IV style. Underneath is a counter using the now-famous Matt Groening font" If that wasn't a dead giveaway, the garish pink toolbar on top and the same Matt Groening font can be found there as well. So is this the sign of a new Simpsons game? Perhaps. Still the movie is set to be out this July 27, so it's a pretty long time for the announcement. Another question that has been posed, is "Why in four days?"

Well, we can't really give you much aside from the link to the site itself (click on the read link). If any of you guys can dig up more information on this, help out the rest of the gaming community and post it.

;)

Heard the game will be based on the City of Springfield. Also, I heard that Mayor Quimby issued a statement that he was quite disturbed that the game accurately represents Springfield and is concerned that it might be used by bad guys to plan bank robberies, home breakins, etc. Stay Tuned to http://www.ea.com/xxii/

The Simpsons: The Game

Surely for the upcoming game, they really dont hide stuff very well. The site looks to have, a tips section, a media center section, a news section, a games section, and a downloads section...

Hey guys, I've seen the game in action running on xbox 360. It's gonna be a cell-shaded platformer with the player taking control of the entire Simpson family - though mainly Homer and Bart as they were polled to be the most popular (with Marge being the least popular to no surprise). The stories for the game are written by the same guys who does the show, and the game will be seperated into shorter episodes (though not as episodic content). This probably goes without saying, but all the characters will be voiced by the original actors, and in addition, the game will feature Springfield modelled in it's entirety to give it that sandboxy feel. I wish I could tell all that I know about the game, but unfortunatly I'm not allowed to do so, and my screenname makes it kindda difficult to post anonymously (yeah, it's the same as my real name...) I could tell alot more about the storyline and why they are using GTA font, but that would probably give away a bit too much about the game - but yeah, there is a reason for using that font, and not just because of the pre-game hype :) BTW, the game is not based on the movie...

That's funny.

There's always one of these people. Those "insiders" that seem to suggest it will contain content we have seen from previous games. I'll humour you for a second. Ready? You say that is your real name. Which means one of two things. You are telling the truth and you are incredibly stupid or you are lying and you are still incredibly stupid. Because you suggest it is hard to post anonymously on the Internet, you get bonus stupid points. Trade them in for a prize like a dunce cap and next time at least put a little commitment into a lie.

I figured this would happen, but somehow hoped it wouldn't here (this not being joystick or kotaku). Anyway, I see why it's hard to believe, so don't if you choose so - fine by me. The original newspost called out for some information, and I just so happened to have some for once and decided to share it with the rest of you. I don't go around trolling on message boards, and I never cheat in online games, so I never felt the need to hide behind some random screenname like AZ0. I figured the information I decided to share would be vague enough for EA not to be mad, while still relevant enough for people to get some kind of idea as to what the game would be about.

Arcade game?

The date coincides with arcade Weds. They brought out the TMNT arcade game right before the movie came out... I hope they do eventually release that arcade title (they'd be stupid not to cha-ching!)

Site down

The site seems to be down, have they realized they've shown too much? :D
by - 2007-05-07 18:47:28
not really

But it's also a custom error message with the line "See you tomorrow" at the bottom, so it's probably just to somehow generate more hype among the people who already have seen the countdown page and figured out what it's about.
by GordLacey - 2007-05-08 16:16:43
Still nothing

Well, "tomorrow" is today, and there's still nothing but the error message on the site. I noticed they edited the standard message to say: "or that you have tried to access it too many times and need to be patient." instead of "or that you entered an incorrect URL. " Yes, I do need to be more patient, but I want the information, and I want it now! :D Gord

Thanks Morten

Morten, thanks for giving us info on the game....before game sites started reporting on it. Too bad people trashed your helpful post, doubting the information. Hey, at least you knew you were right, and now everyone else does as well. Gord

....

Thanks man. I should have known it, as I've seen it a million times before on other messageboards/ newssites, I just didn't expect it as much here on qj.net. Actually, I almost didn't post it, but seeing how people were really getting into investigating the webpage (looking through source code and everything), so I decided to share some of what I knew. Anyway, I'll survive - hopefully somebody believed me :)
