3DS will come with currency-earning pedometer

Some people and organizations would tell you to drop the video games and exercise. Nintendo would tell you to pick up their games and exercise. We've seen them provide exercise elements into their games and hardware, and for the 3DS, things won't be any different on that end.

The Wii had titles such as Wii Fit and peripherals like the Balance Board, et cetera, while some games had support for accessories like the pedometer, which gives you in-game rewards for simply walking, like the Pokewalker for the Pokemon games. The 3DS, too, will be sporting a pedometer of its own.

Using the accompanying software, the 3DS pedometer will record and keep track of the steps you take each day. The more you walk, the more Game Coins you will earn. These Game Coins will act as in-game currency for the games that will support it.

Nintendo hasn't announced which games will be making use of these Game Coins, but nonetheless, it's one more perk for something you need to do everyday.

Pedo as in "Pedophile" is just an American simplification of "Paedophile", but if you trace back the history of the word it just isn't at all the same as "pedometer", which comes from "pedo", as in legs. Humans, for instance, are bipedal.

"Paedo", now commonly spelt "pedo" in the US (causing some confusion) has always been used the prefix to describe something related to infants.

Totally true, but still but you msut agree the name still gives a freepass to make jokes all around..

Like "gay"...coined to define an homosexual individual, instead of the true meaning "happy person"..

Heh, I agree man. It's just one of those things where my brain goes "omgomg I know this one!" and I have to give a history lesson.

I do this IRL, too, and apprently it's annoying, but...

I have a pretty good guess! Games that support 24/7 wifi. This would be a pretty good attempt to get people to leave their 3DS on while walking 'around other people' in an attempt to get that feature used more and talked about more.

I think the only exercise the 3DS will encourage is the hard work everyone will have to do to afford it.
