16 year old shoots parents, kills mom, for taking away his Halo 3 |

16 year old Daniel Petric snuck out of his room one day in September 2007 to buy Halo 3 - without the knowledge of his dad. He had been playing the game with his friends for some time, and he wanted his own. When he got back home, his folks caught him with the game and took it from him because it was too violent. His dad, Mark, a minister at New Life Assembly of God in Wellington, kept the game in a locked box where he also kept his 9mm. Yes, he's a holy man with a handgun.
Anyway, about a month later, on the 20th of October, 2007,Daniel hasn't quite gotten over the Halo-denying incident, so he got his dad's lockbox key to get the game...and found the gun next to it. Things went to hell after that.
According to Mark Petric's testimony, he was sitting on the couch when Daniel came up behind him and said, "Would you guys close your eyes? I have a surprise for you." Thinking it was a pleasant surprise from his son, his head suddenly went numb as blood poured from a gunshot wound. He later realized that his wife already laid dead on a nearby seat, shot in the head, arms, and chest.
Daniel even tried to frame his own dad by putting the gun into his hands. "Hey Dad, here's your gun. Take it," he said according to Mark.
Luckily, Mark's daughter and her husband were coming over to watch the Indians. After a quick 911 call, Mark was saved. Daniel tried to make a run for it, but was eventually taken by the Wellington police. He now stands trial for murder and attempted murder.
All for Halo 3. It makes me wonder how the guy's mind works, to be able to shoot your parents in cold blood all because of a game. This guy has serious issues. Violent video games, eh? Apparently, some people really can't handle it.

But the boy is at fault. Obviously he had issues if he had to sneak around to buy games, and of course there is that holding-a-grudge-for a-month thing too.
And if he was perfectly able to sneak around to his friends' houses to play Halo, then why did he commit the atrocity? Answer: Because he is sick and even more retarded than his parents.

Why do you need a 9mm handgun in your house ? So your kids can shoot you with it ?
I agree this kid has problems, but we are only products of our environment and i'm sure being a preachers son who is not allowed any freedoms can get to you. His dad is obviously a huge hypocrit if he is keeping firearms in his home with his children....

It wasn't the video game that did this it was this pathetic loser who couldn't accept that his parents were doing whats best for him. As it is obvious to everyone.

I'm thinking that da-da wasn't home all the time for his son with being a minister and all. He had to have been busy with other stuff. This really makes gaming look bad, shame on sonny boy for doing this.
Reply
For example, you would have to place 100 boys in a room, and all they would do is play video games. And see if they behave violently.
Unlike real life, kids face other difficulties, like being bullied or having a bad home life. You cannot blame video games as the problem. Also, in regard to the firearm, it's a right to be able to own one, we should not take away that right because one madman is misusing that freedom.
In conclusion, it's silly to blame an event on one hobby or pastime.
Reply
If they took away Halo 3, who knows what else he was forbade to do that most kids his age were able to? Things like school dances are not allowed in a lot of modern day religions, as stupid as it sounds, its true. I was raised in a strict religous household, and even Pokemon cards were "satanic" and not allowed for my little brother. Overly protective parents cause a lot of kids to lash out at their parents, myself included, but I didnt kill my mom, I just left home as soon as I was able.
I am in NO way sticking up for the kid, but lets look at the real issue here and not blame something like this over a video game.
Reply
He can't get death penalty but I think he could be put in juvi and then sentenced to life in prison. It's funny how the dad had a gun even though he was a minister. Someone doesn't love god enough. And as for the kid he is insane. His friends must be kickin his ass in Halo 3 to get that upset for the game. Halo 1 was still the best.

1. Why shoot his parents when they were probably the one's that gave him the money to buy it in the first place?
2. Which Gamestop sold him the game because that game is Rated M?
3. Why for this game? WoW I'd understand people are addicted to that game.
4. Why did the parents hold the game for that long? They should have given it to the kid at least 2 weeks later and told him that his actions were wrong.
kaoken is right. Religious parents are pushy sometimes because they believe they are always right because they think they know more.

Seems too many paranoid people in America have guns just because they can, and justify it by saying it's for "protection". However, home invasions are definately not that common to warrant it.

it states that taken a life in certain circumstances is acceptable
cotracdictory to everythin else they teach but sure thats religion, aslong as theres a few wealthy men they dont give two *****s
also i may be wrong but quakers also believe that the euthanaisa can be acceptable, catholics dont, but theyre allright to take a life out of vengence (death penalty), rather than sympathy
anyway im sorry but some guy he also was talking about the fact that he is white, and i dont know but it tends that parent killers tend to be more white than blacks, although we all have our fair share of physcos, lol
anyway the parents i believe could havebeen to controlling, but obviously i dont know. still no excuse it seems they knew he had a mental problem
anyway i live in ireland, s we dont have the right to guns, however some where saying to revoke that right,
but you can be sure that if an intruder et ever comes into my house illl be battering him to death wit my hurl, ill have no problem doing it either, the guy obviously is useless to society so why do we as a society need him, simple. sure the guy might have got mixed up in the wrong thing and is absoulutely desperate, but for the majority kill the bastards,
also the kids i england running around with daggers and guns, simple solution give the public a day of vigl antis, the only reason theyre ding it is because they can get away wit it cause the justice system is so *****ed up, an life for an eye is my modo
also sorry for bad grammer and spelling on ps3, is a pain to type

Can you imagine how awful it should be to be the son of a "holly man", the poor MF was so f***d up cause he has been repressed all his life and taking away the Halo 3, he surely bought on his own, was the drop that spilled the glass
You should treat your sons with understanding, not with ancient and stupid beliefs

What nobody is talking about is that every school shooting in the last 15 years has involved Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI) drugs which are prescribed for ADHD and I have no doubt this murder wasn't part of the pattern.
For you people that are somehow tying this to his parents being strict or religious, I wonder how you explain that we didn't see an epidemic of this 60, 70 or even 100 years ago when ALL parents were much stricter, and much more religious.

I don't believe that the attempted/murder was about the game. I agree that there really wasn't much in this kids life. He snuck the game into the house which means that he knows his parents wouldn't approve (he owned a 360 so he was probably forced to play Viva Pinata) It also proves that religion without true faith is bull***** because for how controlled his life may have been with his preacher father and how repressed he may have been by his mother, their obsession with religion and non-violence didn't stop the killer he harbored inside of him (He was actually crazy, he sarcastically mocked his parents before shooting them) His dad's survival might explain why he didn't make sure his dad died before the others arrived, because his Dad's beliefs may have been a problem but who knows what his mother was like. he was still looking for the game like any good sneak would do but found something better than what he was looking for in the lock box: a way to stop his parents' control
Let's be honest
I know his type...
the typical Halo player/Future Killer has:
few friends
army or camo clothes
glasses
a bully
buzzcut
white skin
some problem that requires medication
xbox(360)
CQC
and a gun (collection)
oh, and Halo
And his parents
i know their type too...
they forced him to:
go to church
repress all expression that didn't coincide with their beliefs
take on their beliefs
and go nuts.
so there .
Halo might be a good game but its not worth killing for. I bet if his parents didn't own a gun he would have found the game and played it on the sly
this should be a lesson to God Freak parents that they can't control their kids beliefs
and a valuable study of classic, crazy Columbine-Halo kids!

I mean... I was subjected to that and I left my house at thirteen to live with an aunt. Never returned to my parents home ever again.
There were plenty of times I said to myself, "God... Why are my parents such a**holes!" and I admit that at one point I even thought to throw bleach in their morning coffees, but did I do it!? NO!!! Simply because I knew it wouldn't solve a damn thing but make my life more miserable.
I understand what the kid was subjected to, but to kill your parents for taking Halo 3 away?! That's stupid!
My parents took my PS2 (on my birthday, no less) because I had a friend bring over Silent Hill 3 to play.
Did I kill them (knowing where my father kept his gun)? NO!!! I just bought my own PS2 and kept it in my closet when I wasn't playing it.
Find another solution. Don't kill your parents about it.

There is really no ONE person to blame in this incident.
Do you blame the game companies for creating 'violent' video games?
Do you blame the father for owning a handgun and not keeping the key secured?
Do you blame the child for overreacting to such a strong degree to commit murder?
Do you blame the game store employee that sold him the game?
How do you assign 'guilt' in this matter? The truth of it is this will continue to happen forever and ever because it is impossible to control people's lives.
Sure you can "M" rate games, but apparently that doesn't work.
Sure you can lock your guns up in gun safes, but apparently that doesn't work.
Sure you can teach understanding, respect for life, and compassion, but apparently that doesn't work.
There really is no way to prevent these crimes from occurring.
It's a very sad and tragic incident, which probably could not have been avoided at any cost.
The only truth in this matter is that this child has some kind of severe mental problems: whether bipolar, adhd, depression, schitzophrenia, or whatever.
Something in this child's head snapped, and there was no going back. The fact that it was 'Halo 3' had nothing to do with it. It could have been a 'Mario' game or any other game. With the conditions met to make this child snap, he would do it no matter what the 'Title' or 'Genre' of the video game was.
With all that said, I could never ever ever imagine hurting my parents.. I've never struck them, threatened them or anything of the like.
I consider myself to be a pretty well-rounded individual and when I hear of crimes like this it's hard for me to understand what could cause someone to do this.
I almost have to agree with buzzkill3r though about the psychoactive drugs being distributed throughout society now. Many children are being used as 'guinea pigs' while determining which medications 'work' and which don't. These psychological imbalances are what most likely contribute to these acts of violence. The fact that this kid was 'white' or that his parents were religious played little into the motive behind this.
All in all, this child would have committed these crimes regardless of whether it was 'Halo 3' or any other game title. He would have committed these crimes regardless of whether it was being denied the video game, or being denied any other action that the kid enjoys doing. What if the parents said "No you can't skateboard anymore?" and took away his skateboard (or something similar). The emotional trigger is what caused his psychological thinking to become traumatized beyond rationality.
So where do you draw the line?

Anyways, my heart broke when I saw the picture of the father crying his ass off. Thats some sad stuff.

That said, before the mob goes on a war march to have games banned or blaming all sorts of nonsense, they should consider if this tragedy, like many other tragedies caused by youth gun crime could have been avoided if it wasn't so easy to obtain and own a gun in America. I know that people go to incredible lengths to showcase their violence, for example in the UK where I am from, people with no guns use knives quite expertly. But there is a difference between people who are destined to cause harm and murder and people who are pushed to such actions simply because the tools to carry them out are so conveniently available. Combine that with a plethora of other reasons, not the least being a psychotic teenage loser.

#2:while blacks do shoot each other, it's never ever as terrible as what whites do. at least we kill people that not in our family and for reasons that don't involve toys and/or games. Not to mention the fact that its almost accepted by society for blacks to kill each other, while for whites its... well... not so acceptable.(white kid shoots someone... OMGWTFBBQ! the sky is falling and the world is ending. Black kid shoot someone... Meh. he had it comin...)

Cops: Cape Girardeau woman kills man who returned to rape her second time
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
10/31/2008
An intended rape victim shot and killed her attacker this morning in Cape Girardeau when he broke into her home to rape her a second time, police said.
The 57-year-old woman shot Ronnie W. Preyer, 47, a registered sex offender, in the chest with a shotgun when he broke through her locked basement door.
The woman told police he was the same man who raped her several days earlier. Officials do not intend to seek charges against her.
In the first incident, the woman heard glass breaking in her basement about midnight on Saturday. She went to leave the house, and the man attacked when she opened the front door. He punched her in the face and then forced her into a bedroom, where he raped her, said H. Morley Swingle, prosecuting attorney in Cape Girardeau County.
The victim reported the crime to police, and her landlord repaired the broken window.
She was home alone again Friday about 2:15 a.m. when Preyer broke the same basement window. The victim was awake watching television, when Preyer switched off the electricity to her house.
She tried to call 911, but couldn't because the power was off. She got a shotgun and waited as the man began banging on the basement door. She fired when Preyer came crashing through the door. When Preyer collapsed, the woman escaped and went to a neighbor's home, where she called police. Officers, who arrived within a minute, found a bleeding Preyer stumbling away from the house. He was taken to St. Francis Medical Center, where he died several hours later.
Swingle said the victim identified Preyer as the attacker in both incidents. Preyer, of Jackson, Mo., had wet caulking from the recently repaired basement window on his clothing when he was shot.
"I will not be filing any sort of charge against this 57-year-old woman, who was clearly justified under the law in shooting this intruder in her home," Swingle said.
Good For Her!
Everbody Go Purchase A Gun, the world will be a safer place.

I agree the kid was a complete jack*ss and he was obviously over spoiled but to much things that are more mature have been taken away. Now about the racial crap.... I can explain it. I'd say about 90 percent of blacks and beaners that kill other people kill because they are gangbangers and are a little screwed up in the head because of their poor childhood.I don't know about blacks but about half of white parents don't let their kids play m games. Beaners don't care what their kids play. Asians...well asians well make the games for people like him to screw his life up. Here is a list in percent of whose fault it is.
Friends 25% (WERE probably telling him "if that were me i would kill them")
Parents 20% (spoiling while restricting to much stuff)
Violent Video Games 5% (It pains me to say this but violent video games have some fault in it.)
Himself 35% (He was obviouly an idot and had some mental issues.)
His dad having a gun and it being their right nex to the game 15%

Without firearms, how are you supposed to protect yourself from a corrupt government or a dictatorship taking over? The executive branch which includes the police, military and investigation agencies fall directly under the president, so in that event, they must follow his orders or suffer trial for treason or desertion.
Yes it's a far fetched scenario (maybe not as it has happened multiple times throughout the world in the past 100 years), however the bottom line remains that it's a right protected by our constitution.
Guns don't kill people. People kill people. If the guns were the problem, then let's get rid of ANYTHING that can be used to kill some one. Knives, forks, cars, chemicals. Exactly.

1. The parents (dad anyway) are devout holy rollers. Growing up where I did the bible thumpers could really get into a sh1t eating stupor when they decided that (blank) was the new Antichrist. So, this kid probably has one of two additional things going on.
A. His folks really focked him over with a mule dild0 topped with a barbed wire c0ckring, thus creating a mentally unstable individual that saw an opportunity to stop the abuse, or:
B. He is a spoiled little sh1t that needs to become a raging homosexual, courtesy of our societies penile institutions.
As for the second possibility to this atrocity is:
2. Kids since the late 70's seemed to have lost the ability to understand what consequences are. Meaning that when you broke your dad's best fishing rod from whacking down your mom's flower bed, you got your ass beat. And quite well as I remember.
Corporal punishment was in the schools as well as on the street. You mouthed off to any adult and they got to beat your ass, then take you home and watch as your folks tag teamed on your ass as well.
Kids have since lost that ability to think about their ass before they do something stupid. No, beatings don't keep stupid things from happening, but i know it kept this kind of sh1t down to a minimum.
I beat my kids ass everywhere I went. Little old ladies in the shopping center would look at me like I was Satan for whipping my kid. I told her in no uncertain terms, "At leat he won't be bashing your head in for your social security check!"
Don't flame me because you have a propensity to lie to yourselves... Everyone has run into the screeching f0ck trophy in the check out lane or bus ride. If you didn't think to yourself "beat that kid silent " or something of a similar nature, then we are all focked, cause you must be Jesus and the rapture is upon us.
The thing is, you KNOW that kid needs his ass kicked, it's just still human nature to not want to actually witness the ass beating.
