Worms: Battle Islands announced for PSP |
Listed in: PSP Tags: PlayStation Network, Team17
Previously seen squirming in WiiWare, Worms: Battle Islands is Team17's tactical, island-hopping, multiplayer installment to their Worms series. Now that Worms 2: Armageddon has burrowed its way into the PlayStation Network, it's time to multiply. This time, they're taking over the PSP.

The game's multiplayer is focused on the Tactics Mode, where players will have to fight over 16 different islands in the game to gain advantages over the another. There are sniping spots, good recon areas, plus many other tactical elements that would suit different playing strategies.

The game also boasts a Weapon Editor that'll give you more customization options for your arsenal. There will be multiple adjustable elements to your weapons, so you could tweak them to get the best results when used in your strategy.

Key features:
- All new multi-player Tactics Mode, coupled with the player’s secret island base feature.
- New player ranking system awards the player with experience points; higher ranked players gain access to more of the game’s locked items.
- The utilities ‘Flare’ and ‘E.M.P. Grenade’ appear only in Worms™: Battle Islands.
- The only 2D version of Worms™ to feature the ability to design and create Custom Weapons.
- Brand new in-game environments not previously featured in a Worms™ title.
- Appearance of a player’s team is customisable to a higher degree than any other 2D Worms™ game, with new items including masks, backpacks and customisable power-bars.
- Fresh presentation theme with all menus seemingly taking place within the player’s secret island base, and all operations handled by the player’s own four-worm strong team of staff.
- PSP® exclusive - an exclusive ‘Time Attack’ mode, comprised of ten individual time-based single-player challenges.
Pricing hasn't been announced, but Team17 will be self-publishing Worms: Battle Islands into PSN this winter.

Battle Islands is a much more strategic Worms title.
Worms Reloaded is a HD "vanilla" Worms title.
Open Warfare is another "vanilla" title but with features/length aimed at handheld users.
Worms Armageddon was already on the Dreamcast but they couldn't get the online working so it was removed. They then sorted it out and made an enhanced port in the way of WWP, which was then further enhanced and ported back to PC.
To expect "one Worms game to rule them all" is idiotic and infeasible given the amount of vastly different systems we have now.
Why don't you have a moan at Digital Polyphany about why GT PSP sucks so much compared to GT5?

It's not idiotic considering they keep releasing the exact same worms games with less features and then release the same game again with more features (as with Open Warfare and Open Warfare 2).
There's not much difference between World Party, Armageddon, Open Warfare, Reloaded, and even Worms for the 360. They're all basically the same Worms game. Maybe the DS version has a weapon that you aim with the stylus but what is really different?
And, hey, maybe this will be the Worms game to break the mold. But, they've released 7 worms games in the last 4 years. Maybe I don't need ALL OF THESE FUCKING WORMS GAMES.

Let's use Armageddon as a base...
World Party- Had to exist because WA couldn't be updated on consoles. Blame consoles.
Open Warfare- Altered heavily. Rope physics totally changed. Strategy increased in the form of smaller teams and strategic weapons. Interactive "themes" for levels. Overall a more strategic experience.
Reloaded- The new standard for the vanilla Worms game. 10 years since the last so it's allowed.
Worms 360- Heavily casualised. Not as customisable. Core gameplay revolves around light hearted fun rather than deep mechanics like in the other games.
Now lets take it further still.
Battle Islands- The most strategic title to date. Plays more like a mini-war game than a party title.
Space Oddity- Single player focused. Wii-only features (wiimote).
Also the other point you made about engines is wrong. They're not using the same engines at all. Worms Reloaded shares part of its engine with Worms 2: Armageddon. That's as far as it goes. The last engine share was Worms 2+Armageddon from 98-99 respectively.
The more you know....

Also, why do you think those minor differences make those Worms games different? Do you really think they shouldn't make a Worms game that incorporates what you said into a single Worms game? Like one that has modes for "smaller teams and strategic weapons" AND "light hearted fun"? Do you really think they're THAT different? I mean, you barely mentioned any real differences besides rope physics. It's still worms taking turns but some of the games have less modes and less weapons. How big of a Worms fanboy can you really be.
Also, what I said about the Open Warfare engine being used on multiple platforms is true. It's not a lie..
I'm not coming back to this comment section anymore because this silly and you're pretty hostile. I'll let you have the last comment since I know you'll get off on that. ;)

I was involved with one of the Worms team once upon a time and I still have connections within Team 17. Sir, they are not sharing the same engine. Please don't lie, realise you're in deeper than you thought and then run away. It's not a polite way of handling being incorrect.
