Wipeout leaps to life with wood and cardboard |

German designer Malte Jehmlich and friends have made a cardboard representation of the classic PlayStation title. Made up of wood, cardboard, radio controlled car, and an arcade cabinet complete with steering wheel and screen attached to the car's on board camera -- and of course countless hours of work, and voila! We have this video right here of the final result.
It's nothing short of amazing, and it seems that it's not about to end here. Engadget has said that the designers loved what they've come up with so far that they're already thinking of adding in force-feedback, lights, and powerups in the future.

I have two points of criticism:
1. The way this is reported on, based solely on the information gotten from the movie, is wrong.
The fact that is looks like WipEout is pure coincidence, as said in the movie;
using these shapes was both cost-effective and efficient.
They didn't set out to create a WipEout clone when they, or he, started building the track.
2. I love the 'proof of concept' feeling this project has, the guy had an idea, made it happen and it is quite good.
However, there is hardly any point to this; this will never evolve into something we will find in arcades across the world.
This is a step backwards in the arcade evolution. This would have been totally awesome back in the 60's, when we didn't have the technology to have a digital game running behind the screen.
however, we now have the means to wire up a steeringwheel and arcade seat to a video game, which offers a lot more possibilities than this real-life track.

Seriously get over yourself, you try to come over as pseudo-intellectual and just come over as an arrogant idiot!
1: this was reported on in a way which was both factual and enlightening, the fact that qj picked it up and reported it because it looked like wip3out is nothing new, it looks like a game, is a real life project so why not put the similarities together for a story/article. its called sensationalizin g a story, newspapers do it all the time!
The guy on the video probably did set out to make a wip3out clone but could he say it without getting sued, probably not!
2: You love the proof of concept? if you did you wouldn't demean it in your following sentence! the guy had an idea, made it, shared it with the world and you accuse him of taking back arcade evolution!
3: IF he did set out to make a wip3out clone, then yes your comment about it setting back evolution maybe accurate but you contradict yourself by saying the designer never intended it to be a wip3out clone, and that its a proof of concept, hence it cannot be an arcade game so cannot de-evolve arcade gaming!
4: I had to laugh so much at your last line, "we now have the means to wire up a steeringwheel and arcade seat to a video game". Yes we have now had that ability for over 10 years and yet you seem amazed it can be done? did you live under a rock for the past decade or are you just seriously retarded!
5: Next time you pick apart someone's project try and do it in a slightly more intelligent way and for god sakes don't leave your own argument so full of holes it puts the final season of Lost to shame!
Jah peace and love x
