in what other way would it be better than being a button smasher? imagine if it was in some other way you'd have to push up down square and triangle just to swing your lightsaber at something.....if it was anything more complicated it would just make the lazy people no want to buy it and only use one single combo throughout the entire game instead of all those possible moves that it would have....
