Valve: We want to make a Half-Life movie by ourselves |

Video games have slowly become Holywood's go-to source if they need a quick way to cash in on a well-known franchise. Hollywood types have apparently even been sniffing around Valve's Half-Life series, but according to boss Gabe Newell, the only way a Half-Life movie will be made is if they make it themselves.
As Newell revealed in an interview with PC Gamer, the possibility of a Half-Life movie came around after the first game shipped. There were even meetings, but they eventually all fell through because pretty much all the pitches made to Valve were downright bad.
"Directors down there wanted to make a Half-Life movie and stuff, so they'd bring in a writer or some talent agency would bring in writers, and they would pitch us on their story," said Newell. "And their stories were just so bad. I mean, brutally, the worst. Not understanding what made the game a good game, or what made the property an interesting thing for people to be a fan of."
"That's when we started saying 'Wow, the best thing we could ever do is to just not do this as a movie, or we'd have to make it ourselves.' And I was like, 'Make it ourselves? Well that's impossible.' But the Team Fortress 2 thing, the Meet The Team shorts, is us trying to explore that."
Team Fortress 2's "Meet the Team" shorts consisted of short videos made using the game's engine which focused on the individual characters. These were used by the studio to drum up awareness and promote Team Fortress 2 further.
Even if a movie isn't made before the next Half-Life game comes out, at least now we can probably expect some promos similar to the mentioned shorts. And that would be pretty awesome.

On another note. That's what naughty dog should be doing. Don't trust the studios to make Uncharted a movie. DIY. That way you won;t have stupid real life casting actors. Keep it CG

real actors please, cant stand totally animated movies
but do keep it in-house, that way you can control the acting and story
although if tf2 was made into a movie, t should be animated because the characters are cartooned in nature, unlike hl2

None for me, thanks. Already got enough TF2 comic strips out there now. I want a live action HL movie that follows the current storyline in some way, and I want it to be created by someone who's actually played through all the HL games to date which is not something a (probably any) Hollywood director could boast. I'm glad Vavle is so defensive over the subject.
There was a fan-made HL2 live action video that was surprisingly amazing a while ago, check youtube for it.

That's what happens when the game's developer is in control of the movie, Valve is right to do it themselves, if they choose to make it at all.
