If Valve has its way, PS3 owners would be playing co-op with PC gamers when Portal 2 hits.

Valve developer Erik Johnson recently revealed that cross-platform co-op play between Portal 2's PS3 and PC (and Mac) versions is "something the team is gunning for." The possibility was raised after Valve's announcement that Steamworks would be available on PS3.

Johnson's fellow Valve developer Mike Dunkle further confirmed that, "The plan is you will be able to play between console and PC."

I love the fact they are doing this like Kojima did with MGO, but it is sad to see the xbox to be left out in the dust.

That seems to be due to Valve not having plans to release Steamworks on Xbox 360. Maybe in the future?

No, Microsoft do not allow third party distribution services like steamworks. They will only let developers use xbox live.

Agreed. But wouldn't the PS3 players get their ass kicked because it's so much easier to aim with the mouse;also PC mod and what-not?

...if I'm wrong but I believe there are mousebased controls released for the PS3. I remember seeing on in GAME some time ago. I think it was called FragFX or something like that. On the other hand, if Portal 2 will have Move support I believe it would be a pretty even fight. We'll just have to wait and see I guess.

Besides, I don't see why players would get their asses kicked in Co-Op?

PS3 has full support for keyboard n mouse (e.g. Unreal Tournament 3). Valve will most likely implement this. Would be pretty easy to add.

Steamworks isn't a distribution service, Steam is.

Plus Microsoft allowed Rockstar Social Club for GTA 4 and even PlayOnline for Final Fantasy 11.

It's possible but Valve probably has to pay up quite a bit or create some sort of workaround (like linking your Live account to your Steam account) to get this through.

As far as I know MGO is only on PS3, what are you talking about.

This is something that I personally think should become standard for cross platform games. Guess it all depends on how great of a success this becomes.

This isn't about how successful Steamworks will be on consoles it's about money. Microsoft wont allow this cause this will be a service free of charge and most likely Valve will try to find a way to make their Source games DLC free which MS wont be too happy with.

But THE thing I want for portal 2 is move support. It would be way easier with a move controller or at least mouse support (move would be better since I don't have a table in the living room to use a mouse). Would be really nice! =D

I hadn't thought of it, but you're right. I had a hard time using the controller on The Orange Box's version of the first. I would have been so much happier for some kind of Team Fortress announcement, though. Even just a PS3 update would have been awesome. Anxious to see how much Gabe is thinking of doing with Sony.

Everyone seems to be forgetting that the PS3 does allow Keyboard and Mouse support. Devs just need to implement that.

why is this so hard to imagine dont start saying oh but they have diffrent processors and stuff whoever makes the game can easily bind the outputs and make them the same thats just like saying if i make a txt document on mac it wouldnt be visable on a pc, it obviously depends on how the outputs coded not what it does to get there so no more this isnt possible more will it be allowed and maybe then playstation will rival xbox live so xbox will be force to play along with this in future

I remember when Gabe made all those comments about the PS3 and the fanboys went apeshit at him, claiming Valve are a "lazy studio" to just flat-out "suck" and "their games are bad".

I would really, really love to know where they are now. I'd love to know what they'd say in response to all this greatness. Valve are once again waving their magic wand and this time it's at the Playstation.
