Ubisoft: Natal games development mandatory, Sony's wand not really

It's no surprise that Ubisoft is all ready to jump aboard the motion control developing wagon. What is curious is that between the two new entries in this game control arena, they're more keen on leaning towards Project Natal. So keen in fact that Ubisoft has apparently made Natal development mandatory for ALL of their studios.

According to Ubisoft France CEO Geoffory Sardi,

In Natal, all the studios of Ubisoft have or have had, an SDK. That means we invest heavily on this technology, we also mastered even before Natal is unveiled. Even before Microsoft filed a patent for this technology Natal and recognition of gestures, we had the technology embedded in Ubisoft studios in our R & D. So we had already mastered all this, and we think we have a sizeable lead over the rest of the market. Hence the decision to Yves Guillemot to mandate all the studios to work on this technology since we had development kits from Microsoft.

Whenever there is a new application is our strategy, we want to be the first to have a good learning curve and continue to offer each time the better. Microsoft announced at CES that will be released in Natal year end, we think it will be for mid-November and Thanksgiving, and we should have a dozen titles ready.

Okay, so they've had the Natal kits for a while now, and they've got their plan laid out for it already (emphasis on the dozen games at the ready). What about the other new entry in the motion control arena, Sony's yet-to-be-officially-named wand? "I have less information on development. Sony was later than Microsoft."

We'll see soon enough how these two will fare.

Making Natal games mandatory is not what's going to good games. Developers need to take their time and come up with unique ideas in order to be successful with Natal otherwise the consumer will be fed garbage.

Of course its mandatory for them. 360 is clearly where the most customers are on, plus if you think about it, most people with a PS3 prefer to use the old fashioned Dualshock because they are more hardcore.

IMO, 360 get ready for a shitload of (natal) shovelware

Not much difference IMO and it's been around for 5 years. Can't recall a single Ubisoft game for the peripheral.

With Microsoft and Sony both having a system that are stronger than the wii and now have motion controls. What I am wondering is his how hard this is gonna hurt Nintendo's sales...

...so hard that they will churn out another hit console that smashes all sales records but ultimately fails to live up to its predecessor.

Nintendo has that family console painted all over it. When a parent wants a safe bet on a game console they look to Nintendo not to Sony or Microsoft where they can play murder simulators. Just like Apple, where you buy overpriced hardware with a limiting OS, with Nintendo you can buy a console with last gen graphics at this gen prices. Looking of course at Xbox 360 Arcade with the 199 price tag. But of course you have to buy Natal too to get motion control. But if you think about it, if its about 60 it costs as much as a second wiimote with nunchuck not to mention if you want motion plus another 20 for each. And I think Natal can do 4 players so if you really have 4 people much cheaper. With Sony it seems more precise and you get something to hold on to like the Wii but it will cost more along with more players. Especially since you need to buy the EyeToy and controllers for each player maybe even two since some apps they showed needed two wands. Not a fan of motion control and I think all of them fail compared to the amount of control you get over simple buttons and joysticks. Just got a Wii and it was fun for my parents but the most fun I have with it is New Super Mario Bros a predominatly button pressing game with shaking just for some parts which I think they implemented cause they ran out of buttons when holding it sideways. And Super Smash Bros. a completely no motion control game.

But haas the natal got a price tag yet? I'm predicting that its going to be fairly expensive and a lot of people will probably find it unnecessary and just stick with the normal game pad playing and normal games.

# Lost half the serious gamers in the world!Guest 2010-01-15 07:43
So they haven't released the games but already lost the majority of serious gamers in japan, about half the serious gamers in europe, and more than one third of serious gamers on america as a public! Great way to go! (The only two games I own from ubisoft are the ass creed I and II, I had prince but it was so lame that I had to let it go...)

Way to go Ubi...I seriously doubt you'll adapt ass'creed, so the rest (shovelware) you can keep it! I'll wait for some serious devs, with their heads in their place to make serious motion games!

the sony´s wand (a.k.a, D!ld0) xD its more likely to be a wiimote rip-off as you describe, for the ps3, the proyect natal, dont use a fisical remote for its use.

OK so the PS3 wand (AKA D!LDO)is a Wii mote rip-off and Natal (AKA The Sybian) is an EyeToy rip-off. Glad we cleared this up!

fisical remote (the wand), on natal proyect (witch i think ill fail on several aspects) dont use anything or any kind of remote for his use, and i agree with you, as a gamer, i prefer by 10000000000 having a fisical controller (with no motion whatsoever) than start moving a piece of plastic all over the place.
I just wanna chill out and enjoy my game, thats why i stop playing with my wii, excepte for some games (the new super mario) witch its an awesome game, where you dont have to move the wiimote every time.

Ubisoft is the biggest video game company... they did it. now they have more than over 600 games with less employers than EA which they have over 750 games and they started first...

Ubi is going to be first!

about Natal... my friend works as 3D Artist when i asked me he told me that there will be casual games (5-6) and there will be Rayman and Rabbits too but 2 titles will be for something epic... epic...
