Ubisoft: Kinect and Move won't extend console lifespans; 3DS will be next year's big winner |

A lot is definitely riding on the release of both Sony and Microsoft's motion technologies, Kinect and Move. Microsoft, in fact, has been consistent in saying that with the arrival of Kinect, they have effectively relieved themselves of rushing into developing a new console, because after all, the Kinect extends the Xbox 360's lifespan. Ubisoft would like to think otherwise.
According to Alain Corre, the most that Kinect and Move can do is provide for a short-term boost in the market. Could they at least extend the current hardware cycle by at least another two years? His reply: " I don't think so, no."
"Yes, it's a good extension of the lifecycle for a certain length of time and it's also a good way to capture some consumers they didn't have on the casual side," he further explained to GamesIndustry, "because Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Sony's PlayStation 3 do not have the casual customers. So it will bring in a new category of customer for them."
You know what he thinks will make the big splash next year? Nintendo's 3DS. With its 3D glasses-less 3D handheld, it's not hard to imagine how people will be intrigued by this one. And once again, Nintendo pulls in more of what Microsoft and Sony are yet only starting to realize they need to pull in: the casual gamers.

About hardcore gaming, games will reach the peak(on console resources) this year, with next year having more of a focus on optimization and keeping up. From 2012 it becomes difficult to say since games probably will be straining the consoles resources by then.

PS3 is much more than just a gaming system.
About DS it's just another one, I wasn't excited about it, unfortunately.
Btw, I'm not a Sony fanboy nor any other.

PSP will be inferior to 3DS but who minds it? It's a fantastic media portable player and portable gaming system you or any other won't say no to.

so what was the point to add that bullsh!t in the first place?
ill tell you
to OVERCHARGE for a gaming system that is
all those hardwares are for bigger thing other then just playing games
but what are ya doing with it?
JUST PLAYING GAMES

since the downgrades of sonys software, ps3 is now ONLY a gaming system and nothing more
when ps3 had other features, then and only then was it NOT just a gaming system
you cant do sh!t on it except play games
the reason i bought the ps3s was because they advertised i coudl do more then JUST play games, then they took away the features that made it anything BUT JUST a game system, your an idiot

The 3DS offers a new experience in many ways. glassesless 3D is just one of them.

But seems to me there is some contradiction in all this. A casual gamer isn't just a person interested in technology or gimmicks (and that's what the wii, 3DS and iphone are all about), it's more likely the average joe. Yet, they all go for it. But if you talk to them about a new processor coming out, the latest graphic card, what's new about the linux kernel or the (non-graphical) advantages windows 7 brought they call you a nerd. Go figure.
Guess the average joe just likes what's pretty but doesn't make his/her head hurt too much.
