Ubisoft dev: We lost so many Prince of Persia players to God of War |

Ubisoft's animation director Jan-Erik Sjovall has blamed the God of War series for the poor reception of the recent Prince of Persia games, but is hoping to get them back with upcoming release of Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands. Speaking in an interview with CVG, Sjovall said:
Many players miss the challenge and brutal moves from the Sands of Time games - but Ubisoft's trying to tempt them back with its next instalment. When we make questionnaires and we ask, 'what did you play in the past?' The answer's 'Prince of Persia'. 'What do you play now?' 'God of War'. 'Would you play Prince of Persia again?' 'No, it's not hard enough',". So the idea [with Forgotten Sands] was clearly that we'd try to bring our old audience back, but also we're winning a new audience.
When asked why he thought some PoP players switched over to the God of War series, the animation director said:
Partially maybe the animations - the death animations. A lot of people ask, 'will you have gore in the game?' It'd fairly interesting. We want to have interesting fight sequences in there but not indulge in the violence like God of War does. We want to keep it interesting so the acrobatics, the story and the whole look are all supporting each other and people go, 'yeah, I want to play that game'.
Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands is scheduled to be released on May 18, 2010 for the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii and PC.

Look at the PSP versions, the PoP on PSP is crap where the GoW on PSP is awesome.
It comes down to gameplay and presentation and GoW knows how to make a good game where PoP went the lame path and is a crap game now.
They should stop trying to blame others for their crap work.

Even the animation is kiddie-like. Reminds me of those TMNT games or Ultimate Spiderman. And they didn't require shaders.

There are good ripoff games, but what determines a game's legacy is what sets it apart from the others. In that respect, Ubisoft should be faulted for comparing PoP to GoW .. They should compare it to previous ones, improve, and maybe even make a Facebook page and ask for fan input. Why don't any developers do that?!

They lost people to every other adventure game out there because of the cartoon game and shitty graphics. All newer games in 2010 have amazing graphics and new gameplay mechanics. There last game had like 3 buttons and was the most repetitive game i have ever played. You literally went through a level and then was forced to go thru same level again.. So no you didnt lose shit to GoW you lost shit because your last game was nothing to talk about. (yea i did beat the game so ez on that flaming =D )

And for those saying that they want to fight, fight, fight all the time, the original POP on PC do not have many fights either but full of interesting level design and puzzles.

Also, God Of War is a much shorter story than Prince of Persia. A comparison of Linear vs. open platform. Very different & not comparable.
