Ubisoft cashes in on stealth-killing games

Ó

samYves Guillemot had the floor in an investor briefing earlier, and the Ubisoft CEO put two of their top earners into the spotlight. Different they may be in time and setting, but Assassin's Creed 2 and Splinter Cell: Conviction have a few things in common, too. They sure love stalking enemies and murdering them defenseless - and apparently, the fans love 'em too.

According to Guillemot's data, Assassin's Creed 2 has shipped closed to 9 million units worldwide during the fiscal year. Splinter Cell: Conviction, on the other hand, has already sold 1.3 million copies despite hitting retail only last month. Guillemot also expects Sam Fisher to continue his strong sales to push their Q1 revenues up 75% year-over-year.

SC: conviction stealth? My ass is stealthier! He just went around shooting people without trying to dodge any of them by real tactics.

Press a button to kill, mark other people and kill 2 or 3 people by pushing a button and repeat. That's it, no need to be stealthy. Seriously the game is not STEALTH GAME IN ANY WAY! Other SC titles are waayyy more about stealth than this one.

Seriousley? You were definitely playing it wrong. Sure, getting caught doesn't automatically spell death for you like it used to, but being stealthy and doing it right still allows you to complete tasks in a fraction of the time, and man is it tense.

Take the whitehouse break-in for example... You could hide behind the cars and spend an hour fighting your way through, or you could duck through the path on the left and sprint to the entrance, jumping into hiding at precise moments with perfect timing.

Yep, but would anyone really think of that? The enemies are easy as cake and it takes no time at all to kill them. There is no penalty for it. Also the enemies are basically retarded when it comes to fighting you. They can't do jack if you're far away OR close up.

This is not stealth, it's an action game. Plus the unlimited silencer shots. Great now, you have a lot more special moves than your enemies. You're a lot faster than your enemies. You already have an aimbot installed in the game for you, just mark and shoot.

Does that look like a stealth game to you? Yes, i did play it. Everyone that played it with me said the same thing. This is not stealth. It's an action game.

That's really not true. Assassin's Creed is far too different to be compared to MGS and Splinter Cell: Conviction more copied the MGS style of play more than anything. You can be high profile or low profile in MGS and it's always been that way.

And you were arguing against me about SC being really stealthy? Well, if you're saying to Konami their time is up you definitely don't have any clue about real stealth genre game.

Don't take it as offense but SC and Assassins creed can NEVER beat MGS. I wouldn't call MGS a really stealthy game either but it's still stealth unlike SC. Hitman on the other hand is pure stealth and Thief series as well.

hmm, Yea I should stop wasting my time with you. When you wrote that comment about konami. It just proves you have a different taste...bad taste.

lol I've heard that MGS was gonna die since the original Siphon Filter game was released. Siphon Filter is gone and MGS is still here.
