Turbine Taps Eberron Creator Keith Baker for Dungeons and Dragons Online |
Ó
This is one hot news! Turbine Inc. announced today that
Keith Baker, the original creator of the Dungeons and Dragons Eberron Campaign
Setting will be working on additional storylines and works of fiction for
Dungeons and Dragons: Stormreach, which is of course the first MMORPG based upon
the iconic world of D&D. If you would recall, D&D: Stormreach developed
by Turbine and published by Atari was launched in North America on February 28th and
quickly became one of the fastest growing MMOs. The online world of Dungeons
and Dragons Online represents a new paradigm for the MMO genre with one of a
kind features including party-based quests, integrated voice chat, real-time
action combat, and award-winning graphics. And in the gaming world, who does not know who Keith Baker is? Well just to refresh your memory, he is the creative genius behind Eberron, the setting for DDO. His big break occurred when he entered a contest in 2002 held by Wizards of the Coast, maker of the DUNGEONS & DRAGONS roleplaying game and a subsidiary of Hasbro. The contest sought an innovative concept for a new world in which fans could play DUNGEONS & DRAGONS. Chosen from more than 11,000 submissions, Baker's Eberron world, clearly a cut above the rest, won the contest and became Wizards of the Coast's setting for the third edition of DUNGEONS & DRAGONS, as well as the setting for DDO.
This latest development about D&D: Stormreach is surely going be a big and welcome news to the gaming community. Let us wait and see what kind of magic and marvel Mr. Baker will bring to the D&D Gaming community. However, we can already assure you, he will be burdened with great expectations from gamers and from Turbine, so he better not disappoint us.
