The Golden Joystick Awards is the longest-running award-giving body, recognizing gaming excellence since 1982. This year, they'll be having their 28th annual awards ceremony at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel. The Golden Joysticks are also known as the People's gaming awards, where the voice of the fans are heard and they ultimately decide the winners. As of now, that voice is now one million votes strong.

That's a million votes cast across these categories:

“Once again gamers are demonstrating their extraordinary passion and are making their opinions known," said Simon Maxwell, Group Publisher for Console & Online and Organiser of the Golden Joystick Awards for Future. "With voting coming from over 30 different nations, we are convinced that we are celebrating a truly global gaming event and more importantly we're pleased to have been able to give so many gamers the chance to celebrate their favourite releases and see them get the recognition they deserve.''

The 28th Annual Golden Joysticks will be held on the 29th of October and will be hosted by comedian Rich Hall. You can view last year's winners through here.

Very difficult to tell. If I have to guess the results I'd go with Red Dead Redemption. It's not my favorite, but it's definitively one of the most popular this year. My vote went to Heavy Rain.

gaming just isnt what it used to be.. we didnt have this online play. i think the golden days were when friends would come over, bringing their controllers and play mario party 3 on N64. and im sure everyone agrees that the most fun part was when we try to mess each other up while playing :D

I think games should have both options, but the gaming industry is moving towards the "work less, ask for more money" mentality. There are still a few devs that care, but these are the least and not the majority.

Exactly. We are getting less game, more out of pocket. The online downloadables are exactly that.
