Take-Two has posted a better-than-expected results for its fiscal third quarter earnings, posting a US$ 354.1 million in sales, up significantly from the US$ 94.9 million reported last year during the same time period. The reason? thanks mainly to Rockstar’s wild western shooter, Red Dead Redemption, as it now ships more than 6.9 million copies worldwide. During the company's earnings call, Take-Two Interactive Chairman Strauss Zelnick also cited strong performance from its catalog titles.
"While there's understandably interest in the timing of our next Grand Theft Auto title, we've shown our business is much more than that iconic brand. In addition to Grand Theft Auto, our portfolio now includes Red Dead Redemption, BioShock, Borderlands, NBA2K, Midnight Club, Sid Meier's Civilization, and Carnival Games. Each of these titles ranks among the industry's most successful properties and each of our labels is contributing to our success."
"We believe Take-Two now has the strongest intellectual property portfolio in the business and that portfolio translates into profits."
But despite the positive financial result, the video game publisher also announced the delay of L.A. Noire. originally scheduled to arrive later this year, the long-awaited 1940's detective thriller developed by Team Bondi is now slated to arrive in "the first half of calendar 2011."
