Swastikas removed from Call of Duty: Black Ops in Japan

In Japan, Call of Duty: Black Ops will carry a CERO Z rating, which is the equivalent of the ESRB's Adults Only. But in spite of that, the game will still carry a number of changes and toned-down content from the version coming to the US. One of these changes will be the removal of the swastikas.

swastikas

The swastikas, or "manji" as they're referred to in Japan, symbolize Buddhist temples in maps and such. These are different and have absolutely nothing to do with the Nazi swastika, but the symbols will be removed all the same to avoid any confusion. These will be replaced with the Iron Cross.

The change will be implemented in the dubbed home console versions as well as the subbed PC version, but not the subbed home console versions.

-7 # Should be removed completely in the US as well!SnowSerpent 2010-11-04 14:18
I don't know why the US like's this as well just drop it with swastikas kid's will get a fascination with Hitler with Nazism in America as well nice going Treyarch! Well we already have hate groups to deal with! Don't get rid of the Blood and Gore but enough with hate or provoking Jewish people!

The rating is seventeen and up, so they can put history, like World War II, into a game. Anyway, even if kids do play the game, its just history and you should teach them more about it than sitting on your ass and drinking your martinis, fagot.

Aww come on this is just ridiculous, i'm sure pretty much everyone in Japan understands a Swastika on a military uniform doesn't mean you have to follow them to a temple, the only people who complain about this are the ones who just complain to make themself feel superior(trolls ).

especially in japan, they were hitlers alliance
and were doing the same things nazis were
they prolly just hoping kids nowadays dont got the education that teaches them that.
its history and cant be changed
japan chose it for themselves, and dont want to be associated only because they were on the loosing side
but dont worry people, it'll be removed here in the u.s. as well,. you can count on it

eh. thats understandable. the symbols are nearly identical, i wouldn't want people confusing the two. And its not like people complained here, this is only the Japanese version.

I don't think you did. The US version of this game has swastikas. We don't care, we whooped the Nazi's asses. we love talking about how we saved the world from those dudes.
Besides we love violence, look at God of War. No controversy here. We get up in arms about religion and sex, too much so in my opinion.
But in Japan it's a different issue. Buddhists aren't just about religion in Japan. They represent history to them. And they are very proud and protective of history. Add to that they sides with the Nazi's in WW2, it's also a symbol of shame.

"We" so you were in the war? I seriously doubt that.

US soldiers were fighting for your ass to be in school that's what it is.

i think imo your a immature fool who shouldnt even be playing a game like this because your the very kind of person who would blame a game like this for your stupidity
example would be
you may decide to shoot someone one day - your excuse...."violent video games"

look around you
our country is ran by Puss13s & F@gs
the world hates us
and btw, you make it sound like it was over in 24hrs or something. hitler almost took the world over, look how much it took to take him down and the cost
if it went the other way, we wouldnt have to deal with the sh!t we do now

No America saved the world by trying to save it's own ass. If Hitler won this world would have been in chaos to this day. He would have probably betrayed the Japanese. People would be living in constant fear.

Back to topic...the Japanese should realize that the was is over and we should just get on with our lives.

It doesn't reflect on real life you morons.

If you're willing to remove Swastikas symbol from Black Ops then you got a big ass list in front of ya!

Lame, completely lame! Thank god I don't live in Japan.

Wasn't Japan an ally of Natzi Germany in WWII. lol
I don't see anything wrong with have swastikas in video games. Its part of history, you cant erase it. If you choose to censor that type of thing, its like dick slapping everyone who fought in WWII against the Natzis. Plus in every WWII video game we always kick Natzi ass. God Bless America.

Really, it seems noone even read more than the removed the swastikas part and then jumped to their own conclusion. After all it will be replaced by another symbol that many relate to the nazi germany. Censor is one thing, modifying content to be suitable for a different culture because of their relation to something is another.

Also, I used to think the japanese were nationalistic. That was until I read this post.
