Nintendo is loading up the 3DS with a host of anti-piracy measures including automatic firmware updates. Flashcart manufacturer Supercard is unfazed, however.

According to GBATemp admin Costello, who claims to have spoken with the Supercard team, the company believes that the onboard CPU found in its DSTWO cart will be able to help them circumvent whatever protection the 3DS has.

That's just for the standard DS mode at least. The actual 3DS side is another story. Supercard has intimated, however, that they'll be working on a 3DS flashcart as soon as they get their hands on the handheld.

That's some confidence right there. I don't know where they get it, though, seeing as how there's no 3DS out in the wild yet.

I have no doubts whatsoever that a fully functional 3DS flash cart will come out within six months of its release.

It will allow for Wii Preloader-like homebrew, which lets you block out firmware updates and the like. This will also lead to further homebrew developments and softmods, and will allow us to play pirated 3DS from the very 3DS itself (the SD card slot). Supercards and similiar business will be unnecessary. Save game exploits will be enough.

Why 6 months? Other units got a card or card update the same week.

you gays should not forget who you are talking to. its NINTENDO, you know. The cheapass devices with High Quality and efficient software making it look better than the expensive hardware with average software.

How many times has Nintendo said they will give *^&%&$#$ security to the DSi and DS XL etc. ? How many firmware upgrades has Nintendo released for the DSi to prevent piracy?

If I go to the store and buy a DSi XL i can hack it right away, while Nintendo has the posibillity to release a firmware upgrade.

Talk about "high quality" Wii is within the "next-gen" console war and it's inferior to all, i.e, hardware.

The graphics are like PS2 (not bad, they're quite good) and it hasn't got an HDMI output but instead Euro/SCART.

With the composite cable Wii's able to get better video/audio quality (I suppose so).

About 3DS, that's high quality, I'm just waiting to know what's the retail/true price of 3DS before anything else.

3DS hopefully will receive a proper Burnout for Nintendo's hand-held because the version for DS sucked, poor graphics and gameplay wasn't good.

I hope I don't get called "troll" again, but it's funny when they do. :P

Troll! J/k :P

I think his point was that the system isn't considered hi-tech (quality was a poor choice of words in that case), but the quality of software is better than on the higher-tech systems.

I'm not sure I agree with him, though. If by "high quality," he means it's coded well, then sure, I guess, but I'm not terribly impressed with the overall quality of Wii games outside a few of the exceptional first party ones (and even those aren't really my taste). But then, maybe I'm a bit tough on the Wii 'cuz I don't like its controller--it's so imprecise that I feel like I have to fight with it to get it to do what I want.

Everything about the Wii is high quality. They have the lowest failure rate of the bunch.

If the Wii's standard is not to your liking then....move along.

Is that legal? To force you to download firmware updates automatically without asking?

Yes, it's legal and odds are you would ACCEPT doing as such when you open the product.

How would it be illegal? They aren't doing anything to you. Unless you count blocking your illegal activity? Good luck taking them to court for that one!

That sounds like a lot of talk from someone who's never even held one.

Either way, "Nintendo is loading up the 3DS with a host of anti-piracy measures including automatic firmware updates."

We only heard about automatic updates so what else is there to qualify the comment HOST OF ANTI-PIRACY MEASURES?

"this whole 'industry' is too secretive and no one will let me get anywhere near the production line."

That is hilarious!!!! That is a fat bowl of ignorance right there. These guys do not have their own factories. They outsource all their production.

They would need to speak to the board makers to setup a tour of which, they would easily be able to get one. That would be like asking Dell for a tour of how Intel CPUs are made....

It's called don't connect via Wi-fi. This won't work. Look at PSP games, they are fixed so they don't need Firmware updates.

in one hand it might be easier to crack cuz itll be more like the wii and probably have more weaknesses than the dsi. on the other hand supercards dstwo cant even run dsi roms. what makes them think theyll be able to crack the 3ds when they cant even run dsi games? i have a dsi xl and a dstwo and it cant run a single dsi game no matter what update or firmware you choose. not even on a regular dsi. as for acekard2i, theyve unlocked dsi mode. why not look to them to crack the 3ds? better catch up supercard team!

Unlocking to its potential is much better than just Nintendo doing their security updates.

Watching Avatar 3D on 3DS? That would be interesting.

Although Avatar 3D isn't yet out and P2P's have made fake versions of it. The movie itself isn't anything special but the CGI is.

Well, the 3ds is out today (26 feb) and the dstwo failed.

If an update doesn't work, then supercard lost their confidence
