Super Mario Bros. ported to Sega Genesis, mostly intact

Ó

It's the fourth of July, and unlike the fireworks that'll light up the sky tonight, news is slow and the blogs really aren't lightning up today. But in case you're a fan of the classic Super Mario Bros., you'll be glad to know that someone made a port for the Sega Genesis - but what makes this rather noteworthy is that the dev managed a very faithful, very solid port.

Now it's not very exciting to see ports of this game, especially since there have been quite a number of them already throught the years. But looking at the quality of the work, it does give nostalgia from yesteryear, and on the rival console, too, no less.

Making use of an automatic converter, the dev Mairtrus was saved much of the trouble and was left to simply optimize the port at 64KB. "At least the 75% of the code is still untouched after the translation," Mairtus wrote.

NICE to see someone do the reverse (usually it's Gen game ported to the NES)

NES is 8 bit
Genesis is 16 bit
think you mean Gen games normally get ported to SNES

The Synthesizer in the genesis makes some of the music kind of wonka, but the game play is great and was transferred over flawlessly (glitches and all)

it should had been ported on the SMS(sega master system) since it was 8 bit like the NES, but I love this genesis port by far, it even has the same glitches from the original!!! :-)

Yuck,Yuck, Yuck.

I am a huge Genesis fan and it looks nice, but I am sorry the sound is GOD AWFUL.

I know the Genesis is more capable than that. Reminds me of Ninja gaiden Trilogy where they changed the music for the Super Nintendo. YUCK.

I would imagine the sound was the least of his worries, he most likely concentrated on the game first then he will do the sound correctly. BTW I thought the underworld sounded good but overworld does need work on it. Afterall it was just converted.
