Suda51: Natal is great, Sony's Arc isn't exciting

Microsoft's Project Natal gets another vote, this time from Suda51. The No More Heroes creator, Goichi Suda, weighed in on the matter.

"Why develop a game for the competition (Sony) while their device is exactly the same as Nintendo's? I'm not really excited about the gadget from Sony. Natal is great, it would be interesting to work on it."

If you'll remember, No More Heroes was supposed to be made for the Xbox 360, but the devs changed their minds when Nintendo came out with the motion-controlled Wii. Now that Natal is coming out, they can get back to their original plan and make something for the Xbox 360.

Yeah right on. Lets here what PS3 developers have to say about Natal. They probably think it's total crap.

As for Konami's Kojima, he described the evolution he sees in Natal as something "like the 2D to 3D shift, or the first time that I ever played with Family Computer [NES]" - a major new step forward for the game industry. He commented after he first saw Natal: "I wanted to share my surprise to everybody... but I had to restrain myself."

So what does that really say, its crap atm but it has good potential and could be good in the future??

In anycase I wont pass judgement untill Ive played it myself... I mean I thought he wii was going to be great with its new control method that turned out to be nothing new nor special.

saying that they'll probably start breaking a year after release anyway.

blah. It's an upgraded webcam/eyetoy. I don't deny it's neat and might be cool to code for, but a godsend or anything? Phhht.

Now, if the Sony arc? is comparable to the motionplus wiimote, but has the backing of the PS3 to run stuff.... Why develop for the PS3's answer? Because it has a hell of a lot of power backing it compared to the Wii.

At least MS have worked it out. Natal = casual, 360 controller = core. Sony are going to have a much harder time splitting the line me thinks. Would rather play your much loved PS3 games with a Wiimote+ like controller?

PS3 controller = Core, Eyetoy = Casual and Arc = In-between? Sounds like more options to me..

F Natal and F Arc. Devs need to make real games not some side attraction. Unless it's full motion controlled porn.

From what i watched in the first test video of the 'Arc' the controller doesn't use a motion bar like the wii, also from what i assumed, the wii coppied the ps3's motion sensor in the controller and turned into the 'Wii motion+'...

yes, there are fanboys who can't accept what that guy said about Natal.

But yet the more funny is the guy him self is a big fanboy.

He said ""Why develop a game for the competition (Sony) while their device is exactly the same as Nintendo's? "
"

While true wii got the largest installation base.. the truth is 3rd party software sales suck with it...

Thats why major companies like Capcom and EA are leaving the wii development .

www.qj.net/qjnet/news/scea-where-the-wii-loses-the-ps3-picks-up.html

it will be more worth the development cost to develop for the unhackable "till now" ps3 system motion controller or develop for natal -which will attract more casual gamers catagories- than to develop for the wii.

Wait, did this guy even see Arc? In action? If this would be case, he wouldn't say it's exactly like Nintendo's. He sounds just like all the stupid 360 fanboys. When you actually look into Arc, you'll see that it is different. MUCH different.

# No..noAfrit 2010-03-08 10:42
no motion plus can't register depth. means it doesn't recognize the distance or location from the screen unless u r aiming directly to the screen which is different than the Arc.

The other thing, it is completely different technology used.

The wiimote is basicly an IR camera only sensitive to infrared..the sensor bar is the fixed source of IR that the wiimote camera recognize to calculate its position when aiming to the screen, so it has a limited viewing angle.

The Arc work differently. where the PlayStation eye camera in fixed location register the colored lED light from the spherical shape from any angle and beside the accelerometer it also analyze its angulation and distance with simple algorithms with minimal processing lag through the Cell.

also with the built in sixaxis (two accelerometers not like the wiimote only one accelerometer) means it can determine the angulation even if the controller transiently obscured behind the player's back.

I haven't heard much about the Arc at all, I don't understand how it works. Or Natal, I don't know how Natal can do fluid body motions. So I won't judge until I see =\ or read specs and stuff

Oh yeah. A 3D motion capture device that's affordable and requires no sensors to be worn on the subject. Who's done that before?

Gesture recognition is not equal to motion capture.

Evolve into more than just party and exercise games. Nobody, I repeat nobody, will succeed in using these controllers for hard core games. They may have a small use in them but I for one am not going to use Natel to play Burnout or Halo. Furthermore, since Sony's controller is so close to the Wii's, all the casual Nintendo users will be able to seemlessly upgrade to the HD experience. I for one am going to 'wait and see'. Dont 'drink the kool-aid' yet people.

natal will not sell more 360s it will get attached to family 360
although same will be said for arc except arc will turn some wii people, who can get a bd player and free online gaming
ps3 IS the most powerful
xbox 360 WAS the most popular for devs
wii WAS the most popular among people
PS3 IS NOT WAS BITCHES

If the arc is an upgraded wiimote natal is nothing more then an upgraded eyetoy

arc can almost do everything natal can and can do everything the wiimote can

but natal cant do half the stuff arc can

I'm going to reserve judgment with both motion controllers from MS and Sony, they both seem to have a lot of potential but I personally don't see them kicking off as the "must have" thing for the system.

We the customers have to use those controllers. Why do people make so much out of a personal opinion? The keys to success will start with price, functionality and how well they mesh with the current games and not just the new ones coming. I own all 3 systems and could careless about the Wii. If both Sony and MS fail at this battle for motion games, they'll do more damage to their own sells than each other. :P

Arc was in development before PSP before 360 and BEFORE WII... its true one to one tracking.. something xbox and wii can dream about... wii motion plus is NOT 1:1.

arc is amazing and polished already.. Natal is a bag of glitches. it hardly reconizes black people.. Ever seen the bottom of an avatars shoe... BAM there it is

This is hardly news worthy, some guy who already hated Sony is yet again announcing he hates them? I think either way I wont be buying the ARC or the Natal as I prefer to just sit on my.. chair.. heh and play my games as usual instead of jumping about like some retard. Of course at least not until virtual reality is out.

None of us can lie. There are ALOT of fat ass gamers on the X-Box and PS3. Wtih project Natal I'm pretty sure it'll have alot less sales then projected. Fat guys aren't going to want to move alot when playing their favourite COD game.

The Eyetoy was the only original idea's Sony's had and that was a complete failure, the fact is Nintendo usually does the innovating then Sony just waits for them to develop the idea and stick it on one of their consoles, i know some people will say oh well Sony had the idea first and were developing it before them, but that's meaningless if they not the first to take the risk, at least M$ is implementing an original and risky idea and if it works of course Sony will take it for theirself.
