Street Fighter or Tekken? Which side are you on? |
Listed in: PS3, Xbox 360 Tags: qj feature, street fighter x tekken, tekken x street fighter
Street Fighter and Tekken are two very different fighting game series, and for the longest time, they've remained disjoint and had their own fanbases. With the announcement from both camps, two of the biggest names in the genre are going to clash. There's Street Fighter X Tekken, and Tekken X Street Fighter. I know there are a lot of fighting game fans here on QJ, now let's hear your take - are you a street fighter? Or are you a king of the iron fist?

It's no secret that both games are completely different gameplay-wise, hence the need for two separate games. Street Fighter fans are likely to go for Street Fighter X Tekken, while Tekken players would probably go for the other way around. But even then, it's a little hard to imagine actual gameplay for either game.
Physics, controls, and balancing will obviously play a huge part in bringing these two games together. Street Fighter's moves are more challenging to execute and perfect, while Tekken's is more intuitive.
Take SF X Tekken - Will Kazuya's wave dash be as effective? Will his attacks be input the same way? Will Nina and the others be able to compete without hadoukens and single-command hurricane kicks?
Same goes for Tekken X SF - Will Ryu's hadouken be unblockable like every fireball in Tekken? Will he be able to juggle? Will shoryuken and all the other characters' special moves still be executed the same way?
The thing is, we're not going to see either game for a very long time, and it's an issue that developers from both camps thought about before agreeing to clash. With Yoshinori Ono and Katsuhiro Harada on the job, I'm sure they'll find solutions.
Now then, enough blab. Let's see the fighting game fans out there and tell us your story.

I'm a hardcore fan of both, and find them to be equal BUT sfxt reminds me of sf4 ALOT, i know some things have changed but a man can only have so much sf4 type games in 1 day, either way i'm getting both!

Even with some of the more absurd characters/storylines, Tekken has managed to hold it down.
Tekken x Street Fighter it is...

while the same can be said about some of the street fighter games because of the super, turbo/hyper fighting editions, street fighter has been in a league of its own since about 1991 nothing has touched it, not even close.
Street fighter (since world warriors) are the best fighting games, its not even arguable.

I'm with my brother in this...We say that we'll go for both, we love both games so we are going to enjoy the heck out of both versions.
'nuff said. =D

Make it a real VS game where controls schemes are SF or Tekken based on what character you play.
So if SF/Tekken fanboys think their game is best you can test it out and if you are the losing side (ie. tekken) then you just gotta step your game up and adapt somehow.
If you don't want to get raped by Ryu or Zangief, then you can just play SF vs SF or Tekken vs Tekken....and use Tekken characters when you play your buddies that know SF but still suck and you want to give them a chance....

Hmm...you bring an interesting point to the table, but I have to disagree with you.
As we all know SF games are mostly fast button mashers so at close-range combat Tekken characters would be useless. Another thing is that SF have to cope with Tekken's environment mechanics which means a full 3D environment has to be placed so the characters move side-ways which SF characters are terrible at from games such as EX.
Also making SF characters fight only SF ones and Tekken characters fight only Tekken ones to circumvent this problem is completely dumb and misses the point of making a vs. series of both franchises in the first place. Either they make only one version where the characters cope to one single fighting mechanic or like they are doing now with two different versions which I'll gladly buy.

However it would be interesting to see just how each company protrays their counterparts in the respected versions. I agree these games will be whored @ Evo till we're sick of them. But how many can say that they'll get only one version, and not be tempted to get the other (or at least try it, for all we know cross-over achievements/trophies).
Both series has had they strands of repetition, but they both try to bring something new and the two versions is proof of that. So while most of us here say they'll only get 1 version I guarantee we'll somehow have both.

Actually played street fighter since late 91, but never really liked the controls, at the time i liked MK alot better, and then my favorite game was KOF (94?) but then i discovered Tekken and its been forever my favorite
fighting game.
Street fighter is nothing in comparison to me.
Well as someone mentioned there are very few moves in SF compared to Tekken.
Also i prefer timing to the finger burning half circle this half circle that.
and then again Street Fighter has a pretty small cast. but im looking forward to kicking some Street Fighting Ass.
