Steve Jobs was pissed when Microsoft bought Bungie

bungie Before creating the Halo series, Bungie was already a well-known developer of shooting games for Mac. So when Microsoft acquired the studio to make games for the Xbox, Apple CEO Steve Jobs wasn't happy at all. No, he was pissed.

So pissed, in fact, that he actually called Microsoft. "As soon as we announced we bought Bungie, Steve Jobs called," shared Microsoft VP of game publishing Ed Fries with Develop. "He was mad at [Microsoft CEO Steve] Ballmer and phoned him up and was angry because we'd just bought the premier Mac game developer and made them an Xbox developer."

It must've been some phone call, seeing as Ballmer asked someone else to deal with the situation. "...I got an email from Steve Ballmer asking me to phone Steve Jobs and calm him down about the whole thing," Fries said. "Anyway, we did this deal with Apple where we'd port some PC games to the Macintosh and help Peter Tamte create this company to do it, and I had to go to a Mac developer conference and get on stage and talk about this whole new partnership. It was a pretty strange time."

For one reason or another, Steve Jobs didn't buy Bungie himself and allowed the studio to remain third-party. Perhaps it was because Apple's interest in gaming at the time wasn't as keen as now, so acquiring a video game studio at the time may not have been in their priorities.

At any rate, Bungie has now moved on from Microsoft, signing a ten-year deal with Activision last April.

Actually Apple did try, it was one of the worse console I have ever seen. Bash Microsoft for the RROD all you want. The Apple Video game console actually had no real good game.
You can look it up, it had a track ball, D pad, weird button placement. It was up dare with the Atari Jaguar...I take that back Atari Jaguar had one good game or two. Aliens VS Predator a FPS Doom type of clone.
The best thing Apple could do is make a studio of there own. Make itouch video games. The ones that sell like crazy, keep making them, than make them for the Mac OS X. Build from there, support developers with Dev Kits to help programmers develop games for the Mac. Ever offer them help with the hardware. After building on that and having well known Apple made games well known. Make a console.
One of the reasons Microsoft had a good success than Apple is it's not just because of Halo. It's the fact that PC Games where getting ported to the Xbox Console. So if Apple makes there own games than when they release a console porting there Apple games to there second try of a console. They'll have a better chance.

I'm all for more company's making promises to make a better product. It's good for us games. Not like some retarded fanboys that think that if the market just had PlayStation than it would be good for us gamers. I wonder what kill the video game industry? Atari 2600 had a very big monopoly. Thank god today the market got spit in four. Than back than having split of 2. With a very to high of a price for games.

can sameone tell me whats the relation someone games and apple . bungies gived us a great FPS game with M$ we enjoyed it are steve pissed bcz we enjoyed HALO on PCs .

PLS steve i have a iphone and that the only thing ill get from apple so far so keep away from gaming please .

I dunno about you guys but I'm kinda worried about Apple stockpiling money, if they take control over a AAA game company then we'll see a massive shift in the way games are made and released. Although Jobs could just be trying to save enough money to get a brain transplant into a younger more functional body as his seems to be rejecting itself and he has some obscure plan to try and live forever.

Apple's gaming interest wasn't as keen as it was now, but I can't play Diablo 2 on my mac because they ditched the color support... thanks.

Bought my Win 7 after I built my new machine, I have Linux on my old computer hooked up to my TV and I have an iMac collecting dust in my closet somewhere...

And do you honestly think I'm gonna pay over $5,000 for a Mac Pro when I can get the damn near same set-up for a fraction of that price building my own system?

Some of us honestly know that Apple puts out shitty products, hardware and software alike.

Oh and FYI putting the number 1 between the word shitty doesn't miraculously make it okay. What are you, a child?

You know the sad thing is MS made their money from having a monopoly on the market so you forced to buy from them, so you really under no illusions what you getting, but people choose to buy from Apple while they steam roller over every company and law that gets in their way. They are gonna eventually get into the console game and the complete lack of freedom they give you will actually make you look back and smile at the days of MS and Sony fanboys when it was just some harmless competition. MS might have the balls to go up against them but Sony's consistently dumb business plans will have Apple see them off very quickly.
