Square Enix - Yahoo game announcement "will change Japanese history"

Yes, you read that title right - Square Enix has partnered up with Yahoo and the two are cooking something up. The two make quite the odd couple, don'cha think? But anyway, they're teasing for the announcement, with their teaser site indicating that it will "change Japanese history."

The announcement, set to be made on May 21st, concerns gaming at the very least. Theories are all up in the air as to what this will be, so we'll have to check back with them in two days' time.

If they're callaborating with Yahoo, one can assume it will be online orientated. Since it is Japanese, it will very likely be RPG-based gameplay at its core.

My guess? A browser-based RPG. I can see some sort of bonus content available to people who use Yahoo services as HIDEO states, it wouldn't make sense otherwise. I don't think it will be revolutionary though. Unless it is a new genre. Just me

No-one's really gonna miss Yahoo if they go because they not much more than an internet provider that owns a few other companies, but Google has many more strings to it's bow so are massively more important.

Everyone is reading to much into the message. They aren't saying this game will change history of games from hear on out. Square Enix said they'd change "Japanese history" with this game.

So that's what the game will likely be about... CHANGING HISTORY. Not sure what exactly they'd change, who knows maybe Japan winning WWII or if it'd be something even further back in history.

Ok, first and foremost -- this is JAPAN. Hence this is YAHOO JAPAN. People need to understand this is the only fully independent Yahoo brand in the world. They owe intellectual properties, and name branding to Yahoo US ONLY. They are otherwise completely outside. They are under zero obligation nor would they likely WANT to ever bring this to the US. I live here. Yahoo Japan could give two craps about anything outside Japan. Hence why they say it'll change JAPANESE history.

Honestly, my guess is it's a historical game. Yes, I'm serious.

I actually know for a fact what one feature will be. Not all NPC dialogue will be scripted. Some of it will read out IM's sent from friends to your associated Yahoo ID, ..lol.
