Sony will release more HD PS2 compilations

Okay, so apparently Sony does plan to release more HD PS2 compilations for the PS3. That's what SCE Worldwide Studios head Shuhei Yoshida told IGN.

"Santa Monica Studios had the brilliant idea to upgrade and improve God of War for PS3 with the God of War Collection that we released last year," Yoshida said.

"There were a lot of positive reactions from consumers in doing that, and now we get a lot of suggestions for types of packs they'd like to see.

"So we are looking to continue to do these HD conversions," he said.

There you have it. What games will be compiled and when we'll get them remains to be seen.

I've always thought removing bc was kinda cheap on their part. I got my system when they first stopped allowing it. I bought a bit after I did all my research that got me to decide on the ps3 over xbox. I ended up trading in all the games I had because I used the ps2 as a trade-in.

However, there are about 4 years worth of games I missed out on because of not having the system.

I've got mixed emotions about it. Mostly bad, though.

makes sense really the slim is cheaper to produce now and could have easilly included the emotion engine.

Shadow Hearts HD collection
Silent Hill 2,3 & 4 (I'd still buy it.)

You know Sony can only HD-fy their own games. Good list though except Onimusha 4, X-2 and DMC2. Those games never existed in my book. It's up to the devs that made those game to re-release them in HD.

Anyways, I have never played a Sly Cooper game so I'm already getting that HD Collection.

since shadows of the colossus was "too good" for the ps2, maybe they can update it to where it is smoother than the original. Other than that, I agree 100% with your list

All i need is my jak's sly's gta's and rathet and clank's ported over and i can officially get rid of the ps2. You can't argue your not really rebuying your games, your getting 3 in one HD and trophies! Probably bug fixes as well. You also get to use a bluetooth controller, and think about if you had to pay for bc, for those of you who would buy these revamped games itd equal the price of it. (I mean come on who wants to play ALL of their ps2 games, i only like those select 4 and to drop a few more bucks for them to EACH be in HD its worth it in the end)

I like the idea that the new Metal Of Honor is coming with a remastered version of Metal Of Honor: Fronlines and although this is probably not the idea Sony is talking about, I wish if they didn't bring back backwards compatibility, they would include hd remakes with newer titles such as releasing a Twisted Metal Black hd version with the new Twisted Metal. Also of course they should release these games separately but a bundle with a reduced price would be very tempting.

but why should have people spent around $500 to be able to play the games they should be able to play no matter what, but $ony noticed that if they took that feature out that they could make more money in the future by re-making the same game over with updated graphics.

what exactly do they do to 'convert' these games to hd??

and what scale of hd are they?

im just thinking they could be just doing that weird wii hd/not hd thing

or is it in 1080i???

do they stick them through some kinda upscaling program on a pc?

or somehow run it through a soft/hardware upscaler built into the ps3 firmware/hardware

just thinking coz i would have thought to make it full proper hd, wouldn't it have to be completely remade graphiccaly from the ground up??

The chances a PS2 game will recieve a 1080i HD version are slim. First, because almost no game in the corrent gen is actually using such a high resolution. Second, because if they plan to enhance a big amount of games fast they will probably only upscale them and use a program that remasters the colors (so it won't look mashed). You do get a better game in the end, so it's all good. Also some of these games will be move supported.

So Sony has two options here:

1 Allow BC and let you play all your PS2 games for free.

or

2 Re-release PS2 games with HD added and and get extra profits from the sales that require very little in the way of expenses...

Let me think - which option would Sony rather take?...

Actually i'm kinda glad with this news. Yes, taking out the BC was BS, and it did pissed me off back then, but I love some games of ps2, so much that I would indeed buy them, just to play them all over again.

And we can get some new upgrades that never came to light, like the international version of any ff, come on who here that is a fan of ffX didnt want to beat the dark aeons?

At the very least, trophies!!( yeah i like trophies)

hes not much of a tool, i've always wanted to play shadow of the colossus, and now that they're remaking it i'm definitely hoppin on that. I completely agree with the trophy factor, people complained and bitched so much about achievements being something the xbox had over ps3, now we have it, and being able to hopefully ace kingdom hearts 1+2 again but with trophies?? yea i'm completely goin after that, and if they do it with devil may cry, gta, mgs, even onimusha, i'd gladly get those too. Its obvious sony was testing the waters with the God of War collection, and it brought positive results, sure it might look like money grubbing, but its what the consumer wants obviousloy, so yea, look at your god of war collections in shame when you flame the HD remakes, whiners

I don't want a big list, just:

Zone of The Enders 2nd Runner (I don't need the first one :p)
Metal Gear Solid 3 (A lot of people don't like the jungle setting but for me it's the BEST MGS)
Ico and Shadow Of Colossus (it's so obvious)

That is all I ask.

OK maybe this is going away from that but they could fit in Metal Gear Solid 3 and Zone of The Enders 2 in the same package and call it Kojima's Best XD

I just want the final mixes of kingdom hearts 1 and 2 neither was released in U.S and they have english voices in the games already they just need to sub and thats it.
Also your not rebuying the game if you never had the original game and if you do have the original game then don't buy the remastered version. I dont understand all the bitching about BC, PS2s are dirt cheap and why did you sell your PS2 if you love it as much as your bitching suggest. get a life or a job. bitching only makes you look like......well a bitch.

i believe only the 20 gb and 40 gb are the only ones that are not BC and maybe 60 gb but not sure so u might just have to pay the extra dollar to play ur ps2 games on a bigger gb system in the long run its saving u more money

The slim ps3s aren't BC but that wasn't my point, my point was all this complaining seems pointless. ps2s are dirt cheap especially if you by one used (I got one used for 50 bucks mint condition)so are allot of the games used. ps3 not being BC just doesn't seem like that much of a big deal. Noones forcing you to buy any remastered ps2 games on ps3 if you already have the original just play the damn original and stop complaining. For me personally these remastered ps2 games save me money I get 2-3 games bundled together for 30 bucks new and if I already have the original then theres no need to buy it unless I really like the trophies. All you complainers must not have a real life or something that you would just sit and complain about everything I wonder how many of you actually own a ps3 or a ps2 for that matter.
