Sony prepping new 'Classics HD' line?

One of Sony's E3 announcements focused on Sly Cooper Collection, which contains all three Sly Cooper PS2 games on a single Blu-ray disc. The box art has since been spotted online, and it seems there might be a hint in there for other similar collections.

First, here's the box art:

You'll note that it features the "Classics HD" tag pretty prominently near the top. Sony hasn't said anything about this possible new line yet, but we may yet see a Team Ico Classics HD pack or whatever series floats your boat. Fingers crossed!

It all makes sense now. And they'll make more money from the HD remakes. With the games already made, it should cost next to nothing to reengineer them. That's amazing...

PS2 backwards compatibility doesn't suddenly remaster PS2 games in HD...

So regardless, these HD reiterations would still have a very viable market for anyone with an HD TV. And personally, because I have an HD TV I don't use the PS2 bc because it looks so bad (with the exception of 2d games, particularly RPGs).

Wow, RavenSPe, a lil cocky? I think most ps3 gamers are jumping on HD and you aren't the only person with an HDTV.
Anyways, i also wanted to point out ps2 games don't look that bad at all...you might have them confused with ps1 games. I love playing like the Tony Hawk series, Manhunt, GTA, Indigo Prophecy, Blitz, etc.
They all look pretty good when up-converted. I mainly play Tony Hawk though cause well, I love the series. Also, past 3, it supported widescreen and past underground 1, I think progressive scan. It might just be american wasteland with progressive scan unless you play the series after that on ps2.

of course many people have HD, that's basically what I said. Which is why I also stated that games being remastered FOR HD have a large market separate than simple backwards compatibility. I'm not sure what you were reading...

And 3D PS2 games do look bad on an HDTV but obviously that is subjective and my opinion.

Yes it is subject to your own opinion and I have a 60" Sony 1080p tv and the upscaled PS2 games look fine using my backwards compatible PS3. These games look no worse than watching a dvd movie upscaled on a hd display. This is my observation.

While this is awesome, I hope devs make good use of its second opportunity. Games that had bugs/exploits in the past and could not be patched should now be fixed.

But is it the actual devs making these HD versions (e.g Suckerpunch) or 3rd party organisations?

ohhh I´m waiting for this sooo long...

and about the compatibility, there is a GOOD side and a BAD side:

+Remastered to full screen, 60fps fix and upscale!

-The great games will have it... but what about the others? There still good games that is important to some and will be left behind.

Do Sony have so little faith in their new-for-PS3 IPs (Uncharted, inFamous) and potentially awesome new iterations (Twisted Metal) that they're resorting to deliberately remastering their old hits and not just "reposting" them on PSN Classics just to keep themselves afloat?

All signs are pointing to yes...

Yes, its true that Microsoft has so little faith in their new IPs that they have Halo 1, Crimson Skies, GTA San Andreas, and more on their Xbox originals list for download.
Get a clue, if the game is good, new gamers should have an opportunity to get a copy of a classic without having to pay collector prices from a reseller.
(cheapest new copy of FF7 on amazon is currently $170) At least there is added value with the HD remastering.

Microsoft added the Xbox Originals list because they're essentially killing off the first XBox and don't want to further alienate their audience.

Meanwhile, all you're really paying for in "HD Remastering" is sharpened graphics and a trophy list.

I'd buy this. Then again it doesn't hurt that I never owned the original versions of the games.

My calculation (of pixels percentage) is that logos, icons and basically anything that's not "boxart" takes up 19.86% of the game cover, more or less 20%.

This is how bored I am. Please release this now to keep me busy.

Well I guess the absence of The Last Guardian at E3, could mean that their delaying it to make a simultaneous launch of Ico and SotC HD!
(Well riding the horse and kill the colossi with Move would be amazing, but I don't think they'll do it, though it would be amazing)
Well all good PS2 games are wellcome to go Hd with a good price! (God of war hd was amazing)

Yes! With a little luck I'll have my Jak and Dexter collection! (all 3 games + Jak X). IMHO Sony knows most gamers never bought the games they played on PS2 *hint hint* so this is a great opportunity for these people to replay their games, and they probably don't have to double dip either.

I wouldn't mind seeing a MGS collection with 2,3 and possibly the gamecube remake the twin snakes being converted aswell. Also i can see sony releasing a twisted metal collection to launch just before the new twisted metal.
