Sony has a patent with a PS3 controller connected to a PSP

When playing on a PSP, I often find myself with a lot of difficulty managing with the controls, especially on games like Tekken 6. Sometimes, those buttons can be a little unwieldy. I'm sure a lot of you have thought of this before, but apparently, Sony has too. In fact, they have a patent for it. In this patent, you'll see a PS3 controller hooked up to a PSP.

patent

It's not crisp-cut clear as to what this indicates. The PSPgo already allows players to use a controller for gaming, so it would appear the same feature may come to all other PSPs. Judging by the illustration, you may be able to connect the PSP and the controller directly, or you may need a hinged peripheral to make the connection.

Either way, this seems like a pretty good option for many who have trouble with the size of the PSP controls. The solution may also provide you with a second analog stick, as well as a second set of should buttons.

That is a complely ridiculous idea. The thing is gonna be too top heavy with the Psp stuck on the top and just be unuseable, if they made a bluetooth adapter for the Psp's serial or usb port that lets you connect or even just a dock with tv out to connect Ps3 controller it would be a useable idea.

I thought the PSPGo already had that feature?

it does. you can pair your PS3 controller w/the PSP Go's Bluetooth functionality.

just the older PSPs w/o bluetooth can't.

Um psp2tv is what I think you're talking about up there. symbal the dock with tv out, so nope sony cant make that as someone else owns the patent.

Both sony and microsoft regularly disregarded patents and copyrights. They just pay the legal fee because the they profit way outweighs that.

I would like that, and there may be some more, but don't expect them to offer tons of support for a peripheral that only a small percentage of psp owners will buy.

If they did a firmware update that allowed you to map the dual shock controls to the psp (like the reverse of the PSX button mapping supported for PS1 Classic games) it would be transparently backward compatible with ALL PSP titles.

Imagine Medal of Honor Heroes with the view controls mapped to the second analog stick! Oh my!

the controller problem isnt solved yet. they dont have support for the 2nd analog stick. sony needs to make a "PSP2" with two joy sticks. once that happens games will have two joysticks and this will be very usefull. everyones hands get tired/sore now after 20-30 mins of play.

# I wonder if this would help with my PSP problem....RavenSPe 2010-04-30 14:07
I have a PSP 3000 that constantly moves the D-Pad to the left and up. Already replaced the membrane, analog stick and tried leaving them completely disconnected and it still does it. So I figured it had to be the motherboard and those aren't very easy to find nor are they cheap. So I wonder if enabling this feature could somehow bypass this problem? I sure hope so because it's just a $150 paperweight right now.

Happened to my 1000. I think it had to do with the analog nub extenderi had connected to it. It couldn't deal with the extra pressure that came with the higher nub. Traded it to gamestop, and bought a 2000 from a buddy. You seem better at self repair than I was, I took it to a guy but he siad I would have to change the mother board also.
I feel your pain.

have the same problem. it can easily be solve just by installing the plugin called joysens (joysens.prx). it will automatically recalibrate the analog nub.

I changed the analog stick and the little plastic thing with one that wasn't so shitty from a newer 1000

I would really like it to be wired because Bluetooth on every cellphone or device I had sucked the battery dry. Still... The whole point of a PSP is portability. Ahem. PlayStation PORTABLE for fudge sake !

PS: Could prove useful for PSX games (ie. two set of triggers, an extra analog nub) though I managed just fine for the few games I played.

This looks really outdated. The controller being used in the model is a DualShock 2 and the PSP is a PSP 1000. This was probably pantented a long time ago.

I think this is more of a gadget/add-on for the psp, notice the flatness of the controller?

Monster hunter portable 3 package anyone?

WTF that image is to funny.
I am sure everyone has thought of this idea but here it goes.
How about a usb nub blue tooth plug. like the gyro plug. at least that would compete with the pspgo and could be designed for the top usb port instead, so that it could still allow you to video or headphone out. of course this would stop the gps or camera temporally, but that is okay by me.
That is my 2 sense for what it is worth.

Its been done a few times.
And less clunky.

You can go on ebay and get a ps controller shaped snapon handle from china for about 5 bucks.

They've had them for years.

Its true that the psp controls can be torturous to manipulate. And I dont even have particularly lage hands.
But its not worth making a mess out of things and defeating the whole purpose of owning a portable in the first place.

I wish sony would spend their energies on the game library instead.

I can see this being a good idea, but it uses the headphone jack again, another epic fail in my opinion, that goes for that natal thing to.

"PLEASE USE USB", its only common since  .

This would bring my PSP out of what I'd like to call the "dust bin".
The "limbo" before being thrown away or sold.

I forgot how sexy the 1000s look with a clear case.

Judging from the shots they intend to Finally release another accessory for the 1000, meaning they are going to make it for the 2000, 3000 and go too

PRE-FLAMING: YES, I KNOW THAT THE GO CAN CONNECT ALREADY. But can you hold both at the same time? PRECISELY)

How is it shite?

I don't think this add-on is about portability it is more about the comfort when you are playing at home and honestly the PSP isn't the most comfortable thing to play video games on. Especially for people with huge hands like me.

It is a load of shite. It's ugly and seriously retrarded. I would'nt piss on my psp if it was on fire. Worthless piece of shit. The only thing it is good for is emulators and movies when traveling. Other than that it sits in my draw and gathers dust.
$ony are retarded and i hate the fuckers. I'm never buying another Sony product again since the removal of OS. I sure hope Microsoft come up with the next gen console and fuck Sony right in their tiny little stink hole with it.
I'm not a big fan of Microsoft but WAS a big fan of Sony and have owned all their systems. About time the mother ship went down i'd say.
The psp is fucktarded END OF.
