Yes folks, it's coming! Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president Andrew House has confirmed their plans to introduce the often-rumored PSN pay-to-play service in a recent fan in question & answer post. According to House:
"I can assure you that the current PSN as you know it will remain a free service. It is something that our competitors don’t offer and something that shows our loyalty to the PlayStation Community. However, Kaz Hirai stated a few months ago that we were looking at a premium service to sit alongside the current free service and that objective has not changed. You’ll learn more about it very soon."
And by "soon" he might mean as early as next month at E3. Stay tuned.

No, PSN is not better. In fact, it is inferior compared to XBL. Sorry. I guess paying for some things does pay off (see what I did there? SEE?)

I have Xbox Live and enjoy it. But I'll wait and see what Sony puts into the premium PSN before I decide to subscribe or not.

So it may not be a lot of money but it adds up.

Just so you know, the hd resolution that netflix sends is native 720p. Your not really seeing any difference on the 360. Even my pc set for a higher resolution isn't really showing a true 1080p depth of detail. The bitrate is not the same as with Blu-ray.

Although when you first open up your Xbox 360, I guess it could say "Achievement Unlocked - 100G - More Powerful than Wii". what?

depends on what premium will have to offer

Ayways having an actually good free service is a pretty decent selling point because people will eventually compare Live's silver account and the free PSN.

what makes you think they will add "good stuff"?
what if what they add will be nothing you need or want?
dont jump the gun on this

would they be able to "share" the features by giving their account info?
there are some people with multiple ps3's, so it wouldn't be right if you couldn't...

It will work the same way as XBL Gold - If 2 360s in the same household want to play online at the same time then they would need 2 different IDs and 2 separate purchases of XBL Gold.

This both makes the Prem service worth getting as well as gimping the free service w/o taking away any features.

I say nobody get premium, we shouldn't support this nonsense.

Like 3-4 bucks a month is sooo much money. At least the 360 doesn't need a disc to play netflix at a lower resolution. I just got my PS3 and Wii discs from netflix today today and they both sucked. Wii of course was 480p since it's a last gen system and the PS3 only did 720p which I thought was weird. Let the console bashing begin
you know for one the ps3 only needs the disc because of microsoft, originaly from what i remember microsoft had a contract with netflix that prevented sony from using it through firmware only
but im not sure but thats what i herd

Whats the difference between the current PSN service and xbox live silver? We get to play online for free. thats about it. XBL Gold and PSN+ are going to be the same but I bet in the future the "free to play" will be dropped and only the PSN+ will be playable online.
$ony have lied in the past (OtherOS) so whats stopping them from lying again to us?

I don't think the free to play part will be dropped since having that competitive edge is good for sony since selling the whole package has been their strategy for quite a long time and a lot of their market buys it for that, if they drop such free to play a lot of people would be hard pressed to only pay for one service and keep the other console offline and with the 360's popularity that wouldn't leave sony in a good spot.
And well I'm not gonna get into a discussion of the OtherOS feature since I think we'll never agree os it's kinda pointless, but I don't see how sony lied to us.
Reply
Yea? I never saw them say that the otherOS was always gonna be there, where is the source for that? They saw a security risk to their console and took it off. Which I agree I dont like either but I seriously never heard them state that it would always be there and "lied to us".
And no they said they wanted to keep the current service free, which the current service is the one where they offer you to download new demos for free and play online for free etc.

Sony dropped 'OtherOS' due to security concerns, so saying that "OMG OMG Sony took our 'OtherOS' feature, now they guna take our 'Free PSN' service and itl be replaced my PSN+" is COMPLETELY stupid. They do not have security concerning reasons as to why they would need to do that. So just get over that ok?

Also I would bet money that eventually you would end up getting the premium service for one reason or another.
& Some one above stated if you have to pay to play on both consoles that they would only pay for xbox because it has better features. I think people would pay for PSN+ and keep their 360's for back up/ burnt/ pirated/ stolen games < or whatever you guys are calling them these days.

Other than that I really couldn't think of anything else that could be improved, maybe earlier release dates for some titles through PSN+ ?

At this point, if you only have a PS3, you might want to reevaluate the term "value".
And, just to dig in a little, my PS3 toasted. I bought a Pana BR player instead and it's like night and day.
Best of Luck.

Just have to read what they say, "you will have everything you already have now."
Translation, all current games will remain free for online play. New upcoming games will require a premium service. They took nothing away you already have that is how Sony works lately.
Can't speak for everyone but I legitimately used Ubuntu on my PS3 and it took me quite some time to get all the bugs worked out. Time I will never get back. Sony since that update has given me nothing new of worth from updates and now is planning on charging for new features from now on. I love my PS3 and will continue to use it but I am really not happy with Sony's choices lately.
Those security concerns they talk about required you to take your PS3 apart and it would of taken months for it even to be worth anything. They jumped the gun and instead of patching the issue just removed the feature.
Those who complain about the Eula they change the Eula all the time and really that in itself shouldn't be legal. Think about it you say I have a choice when they change the Eula. My choice is to accept and keep functionality or refuse and lose functionality I paid for. It's amazing its like making a contract with someone and then they can change the contract whenever they feel like it. If you don't like the changes then the contract is broken and they don't have to deal with you anymore. Does that really seem legal to you people?
