Sonic 4's not the only upcoming game starring Sega's popular blue hedgehog. There's also the recently-announced Sonic Colors, a Wii and DS title set for release late this year. There's apparently been some confusion as to who's doing what, so Sega has moved to clear up any misunderstandings.

Sonic Team will be heavily involved in both versions of the game, although only the Wii version is being developed purely by them. For the DS version they're teaming up with Dimps, who are also working on Sonic 4 along with Sonic Team.

Sonic Colors sees Sonic and Tails travelling to a planet orbiting Sonic's homeworld. This planet is inhabited by a race of alien "wisps" that Dr. Eggman wants to subjugate so it's up to the duo to save them. These wisps use a special kind of colored energy that can give Sonic various powers, hence the "Colors" in the title. Here's the announcement trailer:

They're making another story developed sonic game, and as we all know that can't be good (i.e. every sonic game after Sonic Adventure 2 ever).

Any sonic game on a console after Sonic Adventure 2 was an instant fail!

Sonic team has proven that they are no longer capable of handling Sonic the way we know and love him. That is why Im gonna disregard the Wii version of Sonic Colors (by the way, the name needs to change. Sounds queer to me) and pick up the one from Dimps on the DS. THEY KNOW how to make a good Sonic game!

I also hope by the name Colors, That Hyper Sonic will return. Super Sonic is being overused.

So they're kinda taking a kid chameleon/vectorman approach to it? IDK... Could be fun hopefully :-)

Sonic gay, i agree looks like a epic fail, But Sonic 4 looks promising at least.

Anything on the wii is gay, there's no such thing as a "m" for mature original game anymore.
