Sonic 4 cheating forces Sega to reset the leaderboards

Ó

Some people just won't stop at nothing to see their names on top of the leaderboards, even if the game is just Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1. With a number of players using cheats to post unbelievable scores in the game, Sega had to reset the whole thing to keep them out of the picture.

cheat

No one will ever be convinced that you managed to beat a level in a record-setting 0:00:00, so why should Sega? The publisher made the move in response to the number of cheaters, as well as for fans asking them to do something about it. Unfortunately, this reset will also affect those who worked for legit top scores.

There's no word from Sega as to how they will address the cheaters specifically, so that will remain to be seen for now.

is it THAT hard to just remove the cheaters from Top Scores?

and well, if they don't patch the game (which they won't), cheaters will do it again, and again, and again.

I just can't understand why is necessary to reset the whole leaderboard. What kind of shitty programmers did a leaderboard system that the only way to fix is this?!

wtf...

I understand this, but sometimes you won't know who cheated and who didn't. If the time is like 1'24.06" who is to say that isn't a legit time with no cheats? It's POSSIBLE, but because they don't know, they have to get rid of it. I feel its a bad way to do it, but I understand. I feel bad for those people who legitimately got onto the leader board, but seriously it's Sonic. This shouldn't have happened in the first place.

Another example of how the cheaters ruin it for the ones who work hard to get their legit score. >:(

Eh, I blame Sega more then I blame the cheaters. Cheaters are gonna cheat. Can't do anything about it.

They should have a way to filter the ridiculous scores without affecting everyone else.

Those programmers has the attribute of a sloth.

Too much work for them to remove specific users from the leaderboard so they decided to be lazy and just reset the leaderboard.

As if resetting leaderboard is going to solve the real problem of this.

What version of the game is this? I cheated on Mega Man 10 to try to get on the top of the time attack list (which was a fun challenge in itself - since so many had cheated before me), but this was on Wii. Cheating there is easier than eating two pies in five weeks. I am going to assume that this is for the Wii as well. Otherwise, how to cheat on PS3 or 360?

well i find it annoying and immature, your buddy clearly has an I.Q. of around 4, 4 being generous.

come on its sonic 4, not black ops, and i wouldnt think of trying that unless he wants a big law battle up his arse.

Sonic 4 saves high scores so no need to worry just re upload your score if you had a good one.

So all the cheaters can immediately re-upload their fake scores? FAIL!
