Soderlund: EA has been exposed to PSP2

NOT THE PSP2

It's starting to look like the PSP2 may really be closer than we think. Mortal Kombat producer Sean Himmerick has stated that they've already seen the device, and developers in Europe allegedly already have dev kits in-house. Now major publisher and developer EA have dropped hints that they've come into contact with the new PSP as well.

When asked by CVG if EA have had any exposure to the much-rumored handheld, EA senior VP Patrick Soderlund replied, "Well, obviously as a developer we have had that - but I'm not allowed to talk about it."

Upon further prodding, Soderlund continued to be coy regarding any actual details about the PSP2. "We can't talk about it because of our relationship with Sony obviously, which is... That's just the way it is," he said.

Sony has remained mum about the PSP2 so far, although earlier rumors have suggested that we may see it in six months' time.

And, knowing Sony, it'll be completely leaked a day before its scheduled reveal.

First!! wow....another company confirms their dev kit....we are getting alot of comments lately about the psp2 from gaming companies, i can conclude that there has to be some truth about the psp 2 cuz this time all the rumors about the psp2 have come from interviews to ppl who works on gaming companies...unless the interviews are fake which is unlikely to be like that......there´s to much psp2 in the air right now.. we even seen a believable picture to say that is all fake...

Patrick Söderlund used to write for a video game magazine, before he started working for DICE. He was a poor writer. :-*

Well, reading current interviews and stuff, there's NO doubt about its existence, its just a matter of when Sony unveils it. I hope they take their time and study what people are really wanting out of a handheld so we can get the best product from them that we can.

You're telling me a large game developer has access to a next generation console whilst the manufacturer of said console is winding down production on its predecessor console?

Oh. My. GOD.

I'm guessing seeing leaked pics now would be meaningless because it looks like Sony haven't decided on the final design, and developers are just seeing some kind of prototype case with interfaces, but anyway there's so many rumours about this thing that anyone giving out genuine info will just sound like the boy who cried wolf.

Sony is just making sure they can make a smooth launch...
Its good for the fact that they're trying to work with developers to make sure the PSP2 has a good library of games before its launch..

Well Sony tried to launch Psp Go like an old console with only a few games and massively misjudged how much content people expect now, so this time they need to wake up and offer as many games as possible right off the bat and give PSN a seriously major overhaul before it's released.

If i recall correctly, Sony admitted that they were releasing Fake facts about the psp2 so that anything real wouldnt stick out. they just screwed themselves because they actually confirmed that they had it.

No, what they were doing was called a "canary cage" (name varies by region). Some of the smaller studios are fed limited information on the device, making leaks easily traceable. However that is generally regarded as a negative approach to combat the problem.

However that was a very long time ago. Dev kits have been out for a while now so there are no more facts to know for developers.

I have a PSOne, PS2, PS3 and 4 PSP's and tons for games for each 60+ just for the PS3 and 60+ PSN games. So when I say I'm a fan of Playstation I am. If the new PSP2 does not have all the buttons of a PS3 controller with touch its not going to be in my collection just as the PSPgo is not which should have been dual stick. And I am waiting for the PS4 which it looks like GT5 needs. Maybe a PS3 that can hold a 1TB hard drive.
