Risen sequel announced |

Developer Piranha Bytes is having another go at bringing the Risen world to consoles. They and publisher Deep Silver have announced Risen 2: Dark Waters, the sequel to 2009's Xbox 360 and PC release, Risen.
Dark Waters is set several years after the events of Risen. Humanity is on the brink of extinction after the world is ravaged by titans. To top it off, monstrous creatures have ground all seafaring ventures to a halt. It is up to the player to find a way to stop the water-borne attacks.
Piranha Bytes and Deep Silver released the original Risen game for the Xbox 360 and PC back in 2009. Although the PC version received a relatively warm reception, the Xbox 360 version was panned for its techincal inferiority compared to the PC version.
Since Dark Waters deals largely with the sea, pirates will of course play a major role. In the context of the story, players will have to seek out pirates who frequent the southern islands as they are reputedly the only ones who know a way to get rid of the creatures once and for all.
In keeping with the seafaring theme, Dark Waters will be home to a variety of interactive, themed island locales with full day and night cycles. Your decisions as the player will serve to unlock new paths, features and additional skills for your character.
The announcement mentions "an all-new technical foundation", so presumably Piranha Bytes will be upgrading Risen's engine for the sequel. The third-person RPG gamepay remains.
Unlike the original, it seems Piranha Bytes won't be releasing the sequel just for PC and Xbox 360 anymore. Dark Waters is currently being developed for "consoles and PC".
A release date has yet to be announced for Risen 2: Dark Waters. In the meantime, here are a few pieces of concept art.

Seriously though, hopefully the console versions aren't inferior this time around.

As long as it's as open as the first chapter of risen...starting at chapter 2 it started becoming extremely linear.

About the game, I got Risen 1 for Xbox 360 but I never got into it, the controls are kinda bad and not a great game either.
