Report: Kinect only supports two 'active' players

Some tech specs obtained by retailers in the UK allege that Kinect will only be able to track two "active" players at a time. The total number of people it can track, however, is actually six including the two active players.

The two-player limit was mentioned by PrimeSense back at E3, although further confirmation from them or Microsoft never came to light.

Another interesting thing laid out by the tech specs is Kinect's hardware requirements. Xbox 360 owners won't need a special port after all, just 175MB of storage space for the drivers and one USB port.

Two players doesn't sound too bad.

2 players! what is this PS2? we're in 2010. Although you could say the same thing about a glorified eye toy in 2010.

2 players is a slight downer for team games. Although the only game on Wii I ever played that required that many people at a time was Mario Kart Wii or canoeing on sports games. All the rest were turn based. We knew about the port thing at E3. There is not need for the other port but if you dont have it you will be required to plug the Kinect into a wall outlet for the extra power. The special port simply avoid taking a USB slot and gets the extra power for the device.

So much for family time. Well, I'm sure the "hardcore" audience they're trying to reach won't mind so much.

having to take turns playing a game doesn't make it any less family friendly... NES Tetris never supported more than 2 players and my family played that together all the time. we even got bored and made our own rules: no clearing lines unless you do the max of 4, or you forfeit the round.

i can't see this being a problem for anything aside from rockband style games, and they won't want to give up their lucrative peripheral business any way.

i imagine this is because it uses the 360 for calculations? to track 4+ people at once might eat too much cpu power for this gen.

Maybe you read the whole thing, but you clearly didn't understand what you were reading. It can only track 6. That means its aware of up to 6 people. The games however will be TWO (as in the number 2) player... Dip schit.

Public schooling FTW!

2 players at a time not bad , i just wonder if players can switch during a active party , so we will not have to synchronise our self every time , or maybe it reconise faces , any way lets spend 199$ i think it worth , the next move would and should be a Kinect combined with 3D .
- 3D menu with kinect sincor
- 3D pinpong or voley ball
- 3D Touch
- 3D yo gi ho
- project name (3D Touch)

sound good the (3D touch) hihi , imagine when u willbe abele to react with 3D contents , imagine a buterfly near your finger and reacting .

sory guys i know its over imagined .

Unfortunately, I would have to play single player. Not only am I as big as a whale, but I don't have any friends to play with me. Plus, I broke 3 xbox 360 consoles, so I hate xbox forever.

lol yeah it supports 6 people but it can only track 2 people at a time, so what's the difference that it only supports 2 people when actively playing, that is still 2 people not 6.

=\ so the whole demo for that dancing game was a fake? The source doesn't seem very reliable. I mean what would be the point of tracking 6 players if only 2 can be "active". I'll ignore this post till MS confirms something in clarity =\

i dont think all gamers have enough space to place 6 players infront of kinect.then imagine it would be able to have 6 active players playing something like a mortal combat game in 3d with all the 6.i think this will end like  :-*
