Raiden can opt not to kill enemies in MGS: Rising |
Listed in: PS3, Xbox 360 Tags: Kojima Productions, metal gear solid: rising
If you've been playing Metal Gear long enough, you'd know that you can complete the games without killing anybody - even some bosses. You can shoot them with tranq darts, knock 'em out melee-style, or avoid them altogether. Now that Raiden is getting his own MGS series, he too will have the option of letting the bad guys live.
"I believe that MGS has a key stealth element in not trying to kill anyone," said Shigenobu Matsuyama, the game's producer. "You could actually have a no-kill completion [in Rising]. There will be a lot of mechs and cyborgs, but if you slice them up, that will be considered as a no-kill as well. You'll have the freedom of killing humans, of course, but you can proceed through the game without killing a human being, but slicing up mechs and cyborgs."
"I will put the essence of the beauty of the no-kill," he added. "I want to emphasize that I will never reward a player for killing human beings in the game. I won't make it easier to clear the game [that way]. I will probably make it more difficult."
For a game that was teased with a lot of cutting, that's pretty welcome news, especially when we consider that completing a no-kill playthrough is quite an accomplishment for MGS games.

He's saying this before Japanese censorship authorities say it rewards brutal mutilation of people.
When in fact, the game does reward human slicing; rewards it with satisfaction and beautiful videogame blood.

Don't get me wrong though, on my second playthrough I'm slicing up everyone into confetti :)
