In case you haven't heard or turned your PS3 on yet, Sony has announced firmware updates for both the PS3 and PSP.
PS3 FW 3.41 is mandatory so you'll be prompted to update when you try to log in to the PlayStation Network. It's live now and adds a new “You May Like” recommendations section on the right-hand side of the Store. And... that's it, or so says the US PS blog.
The PSP update, FW 6.31, is also coming and adds more of those system software stability upgrades Sony loves so much.
Thanks to Sephiroth86 and Hell-Raiser-85 for the tip!

You can use Swap Magic on the PS3 and play emulators and homebrew on the PS3. There's no use for the shitty PS3 version of Linux OS.

I just bought an 1.8Ghz Atom machine with HDMI for $160 that runs linux 10 times better then the PS3 ever did.

Are you going to buy a whole 2nd set of BT peripherals so you can control the part-time linux box? Really? a couple of BT game controllers, a BT keyboard, a BT mouse, and a media remote to go along with the collection of dual shock controllers, PS3 keyboard, Bluray remote and bt headset already cluttering up your coffee table?
Really? That's your brilliant excuse for why we shouldn't have OtherOS back?
Think McFly, think.

All the pro apps are on Windows and Mac,
all the games are on Windows and Mac,
all the driver and software support is on Windows and Mac.
I'd genuinely like to know why people would pick Linux over 2 better OS's.

On the other side of the argument, Max OS X is too restrictive for me and Windows is too virus- and crash-prone. Bear in mind, I have computers with all three systems at home, and each has its uses, but I only trust Linux with managing all my documents and media.
That said, Linux on PS3 wasn't very much use to me, especially the Yellow Dog distribution.

Plus, windows is also a server OS and dev platform.

I'm not saying Linux doesn't have its weaknesses, such as not being 100% compatible with Windows programs (which it wasn't designed for) and sometimes having too many options for its own good, but it has definite strengths over other systems in the market. And like I said, I own computers that run all three varieties, so I feel I have license to judge.
And yes, when you have to pay $20 to buy an app (or pirate it, which I'm loathe to do) that lets you change the colour of your menu bar, OS X becomes too restrictive.
Did I also mention Linux is legally free, and there are no license restrictions on how many computers you can install it on?

Then why did you describe it as a feature of Linux when describing things you felt were on Linux and NOT windows?
"I just wouldn't say that it's a good one."
Countless business users disagree with you. I'm not saying Linux is bad for this feature. I'm saying they are both a viable solution.
"as far as individual site configuration options; you have to change core configuration files and do a reboot "
No, you do NOT. All you have to do is restart IIS. It's the click of one button. Plus, it's designed that way for security reasons so no one that gains access to something like a single file can make any major changes. You have to also have access to the services. I'd MUCH MUCH MUCH rather it be the way windows is.
Linux has all the same security holes. Also you must know nothing about Windows Server 2008 Core edition. Running a web server off core has proven to be safer then a Linux Web box.
Linux in it's basic form is free but you have to pay for most flavors.

reformatting isnt necessary. if you actually download a linux distro like ubuntu or mint or many others, they install side by side with windows in a virtual partition eliminating the need to reformat, you just choose which OS to load at startup, and your PC will run it better and more efficiently than the ps3 did. plus the driver compatibility is way better.

This firmware update is frustrating, they could've add functions that are really useful (OtherOS).
But nonetheless, thanks.

Will they ever add support to bluetooth stereo audio (ad2p) to the PS3? There are plenty of nice bluetooth headphones on the market already (and some can be gotten cheap if you know where to look), but oddly no one seems to care or talk about it. Sometimes late at night it could be very useful.
