PS3 FTP allows Remote Play for non-remote enabled games on PSP |
Listed in: PSP, PS3 Tags: Exploit, news, ps3 ftp server, Remote Play
With the Remote Play function, the PSP basically gains access to the PS3. Whether it's browsing content stored in the HDD, accessing the PlayStation Store, or even playing some games, the feature basically streams the PS3's output video to a PSP. That much, you probably already know. But what would you say if that same feature allowed you to play Killzone 2 on a PSP?

This method was discovered by PS3Hax member theblacksheep, which allows you to play any PS3 game on a PSP by editing the SFO. All you have to do is follow these steps:
As posted on PS3Exploits.com:
- Dump any game of your choice to your hdd
- Install Ps3 FTP and launch it
- Connect via ftp and navigate to your hdd folder then to games -> LAUN12345 -> GAMEZ -> YOUR GAME ID -> PS3_GAME
- Now copy PARAM.SFO and make a backup of it just in case
- Download SFO Editor open the sfo and check “enable remote play”
- Save it and then open up the FTP and transfer the modded sfo back into the PS3_GAME folder.
- Now connect your psp in remote play and enjoy.
The method is supposed to work on any PS3 game, but others have claimed that it doesn't work for all. It has been tested to work on a few games including Street Fighter IV and Killzone 2, with both games running with no problems with audio, video, or control.
Thanks rameesha!

TuckerN is 100% correct personally I am glad that the jailbreak is here. Homebrew has always speeded things up for numerous reasons.
1. legal hurdles and copyright protection(what legal hurdles?)
2. they are not businesses therefore if something can be done with the ps3 they aren't going to hide it in order to release it with their next product
3. then there is product assurance... if for instance the ps2 emulator for slims don't work perfectly sony won't release it. for me I don't care if I have to fiddle with configurations like pcsx2 or play without sound like with the n64 emulator on the psp.
I am defo jailbreaking mine and i'll be buying my games also so its a win win for me.
hopefully this will give sony an incentive to finally listen to us (the main reason for jailbreaking in the first place)...
you know
xgame chat
back up games to hdd
etc
hell they might even upgrade psn for all users in order to tempt more people to update.

I don't care about xgame chat either, I don't talk on the phone playing games, why would I want to talk to someone playing another game? I can just send them an invite. I would like to save games to my harddrive but I understand why I can't. Because people would rent and share then copy.
The jailbreak isn't only for stealing games, but that's what most of the people who have it are going to do, don't kid yourself. Yeah, homebrew really helped the PSP and xbox360 look at all the extra features. If you hacked your system. What great developments from homebrew got picked up and distributed offically so people with unhacked systems could use it?
The main reason for jailbreaking is free shit, after that it's wanting to find out what a device can really do. The only point you make to the big companies when you jailbreak something is "F@ck you", and that's cool. But don't expect them to like it.

Whats done is done. The ps3 is jailbroken, if you dont like it, just pretend that it never happened.

psp didnt fail due to piracy.
psp failed due to poor planning, plain and simple.
every system has been hacked and the psp is the only one thats failed.
and you dont think thats says something.
hell, the wii is easier to hack than the PSP.

compare that to PORTABLE SYSTEMS.
its a different market.
you cant compare a home consoles sales to a portable.
if it really is due to piracy WHY IS THE WII AND XBOX360 DOING SO WELL.
the DS is also hacked.

i do have psp's
although a cart is required, DS games are alot smaller.
as often the case you need an already hacked psp to prepare memstick and battery for another psp, wii can be hacked on the spot with bannerbomb, and most of the games are not that big.

PSP stays strong as a portable media centre and gaming system.

But PSP doesn't have L2/R2 nor a 2nd thumb-stick (sucks for FPS because they can't be played correctly).

Probably this was planed to be made available sooner or later to ps plus subscribers. For me, it's well deserved this was discovered by the homebrewing community. Had they been honest and I would think otherwise. This kind of "tricks" like feature hiding just help driving people into piracy when they get the chance. I wonder what other lies they've told us in the past that will be uncovered?
Wouldn't surprise me if a homebrew PS2 emulator (adapted from PCSX2 as great or most part of the hard work's been done already in it) came out sooner than otherwise expected.
I think jailbreaking will be the way for me to go. Will wait a bit before trying it though, still want to see where this will lead, but I already disconnected my PS3 from the internet to make sure no one who goes there updates it accidentally
Pity I'll lose some online features. But come to think of it, I didn't use most of them, never or not very often. Mostly I went to the store to get some demos but I guess I won't need it anymore, although I'd be happy to continue purchasing some price dropped games from there if a method was discovered to provide access to jailbreakers instead of being forced to get them by other means. Also I really don't have much trophies to brag about besides 2 platinum ones (infamous and batman arkham asylum, currently reaching for the one in yakuza 3), so no big deal on not being able to synchronize them.
I wonder if this method gives us kernel access in order to open the possibility of having a custom firmware in the future... anyone has a clue on that?

Say, would it be possible to play PS3 3D Blu-ray games on 3DS (with 3D effect)?

It irks me that people think Sony is keeping features from you for any other reason than they are not up to Sony's standards.
OtherOS is the exception. Blame Geohot for that one. Instead of promising to bring you custom firmware, etc.. he took away our ability to use OtherOS.
Anyway Jailbreak is broken as of the newest and required PS3 FW.. so < Sony for now..

Fuck yea.

You know if Sony offered PS3 games to stream to your PSP through PSN they might have a better argument for people to stay on the OFW.
But that would be way to cool for Sony to approve it.
(They're still considering maybe possibly rereleasing parasite eve.)
