So what's in store for the PlayStation 3 version of Portal 2 aside from Steamworks? Well how about cross platform play. Yes folks! Valve has confirmed that the upcoming sci-fi puzzler will also allow PS3 gamers to face off against PC and Mac users.

But that's not all, along with the cross platform gaming through Steamworks, it will also include cloud-based saved game storage, cross platform chat and a free SteamPlay version of the game for PC and Mac.

"We made a promise to gamers at E3 that Portal 2 for the PlayStation 3 would be the best console version of the product," said Gabe Newell, co-founder and president of Valve. "Working together with Sony we have identified a set of features we believe are very compelling to gamers.

Newell adds, "we hope to expand upon the foundation being laid in Portal 2 with more Steam features and functionality in DLC and future content releases."

No word yet if the Xbox 360 version of the game will also include these features.

You could hook a keyboard and mouse up to the PS3 too. ;-)

No not hands down. I prefer a console for most games. ;-)
3rd person and 1st person shooters just feel so much better on console, but then RTS and RPG games seem better on PC, IMO.

You guys do realize that buying the PS3 version scores you a free copy of the game on steam right? At the very least you can then sell the PS3 copy and keep the steam copy thus saving money.

This is the reason why Valve made up with Sony. I hope this goes smooth. I think this is the first time a console supports cross platform multiplayer.

It is nice to see 2 platforms working together instead of fighting each other. This is something that will probably never happen on the Xbox 360.

This is awesome news! Finally someone is doing this. The cross platform play and CROSS PLATFORM CHAT!!!, makes this a winning combination that will bring gamers flocking and I hope other companies recognize it's success, then follow suit. Sony and Valve should get the word out and advertise this game with their own commercials all over the media. Many gamers may not be aware of this and if more knew, this will generate interest tremendously!
