PlayStation Phone to launch this Spring?

z1The rumor mill has been pretty active, but Sony has mostly been mum on the subject of the PlayStation Phone. That, however, hasn't stopped news from claiming that the elusive device is indeed coming out next year.

The PlayStation Phone, codenamed the Zeus Z1, has long been the subject of rumor. Videos, images and a few specs have surfaced all over the interwebs, but Sony still refuses to comment on the matter. Earlier this month, a source close to the project claimed that Sony Ericsson intends to launch it March this year.

That perfectly coincides with news from Japan's Asahi Shimbun, which earlier reported that the PlayStation Phone will be launched March 2011 in Japan and the West.

The Zeus Z1 PlayStation Phone is said to be equipped with 512MB RAM, 8GB microSD card, an ARM processor and a 3.7-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen, and will run on Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS.

Again, Sony has yet to make any comment on the matter. Then again, you might want to ready some cash for March in case this all turns out to be real.

So they're really gonna stick with this go thing.

I actually dont mind the physical design of the go. it was various other things that were the problems.

I like how they put the sticks on the outside so that your hands wont be so cramped.

Good idea.

So basically it's going to be nothing more then another droid phone with a controller.

They are already working on controllers for current phones so....the PSPhone wont have much of a point. There needs to be more surrounding it.

Question is what will Sony get wrong with the Psp phone? Ps3 was massively overpriced, Psp was outdated within a year and then of course there's the Psp Go which needs no introduction.

PSP outdated within a year? as far as I know, up to now they are still making excellent games on it and have some more upcoming games next year. Care to elaborate? if you're talking about the firmware being outdated not being able to play youtube, better browser etc, well it's a gaming device not a smartphone.

I agree with PS3 overpriced back then and the psp Go a failure though :P

The Psp is outdated because features on NDS and iPhone quickly made the very standard control scheme on Psp look prehistoric, and i can count on my fingers the decent western Psp releases in any year now. The reason Sony makes little effort on Psp advertising and features in the west now is because they've pretty much written off any chances of reinvigorating the brand, so really a handfull of decent release means f*ck all on a major gaming platform.

Lol.

They'll figure out a way to fuck it up I'm sure.

In fact it kinda just looks like a stupid idea already IMO.

Maybe it will be surprisingly relevant by the time it comes out.

What Sony needs to do is hurry up and get the PSP2 out already and stop being lazy.

# WHERES THE UMD'S?!dragonhart6505 2011-01-04 15:44
Sony really messed up this whole platform with the psp go. It didn't sell well at all, mainly due to the fact that they removed the UMD tray. What did they expect with its' release? That everybody and their mother had WiFi and were able to just download the games on a whim? Nobody wants to wait a couple of HOURS to wait for their game to download...they want to play it NOW! Now with this whole PSPhone idea, do they really expect it to fare much better? Android Os is far superior to iOs, I'll give them that much. Sim card only support...eh, kind of a bad idea in my personal opinion, but that means the market may go in AT&T's favor, though Verizon would fare MUCH better with their faster network. Guess we'll have to see. This doesn't change the fact that without the UMD tray Sony is only gonna hurt their income on this product. Sure, having OTA downloads on top of WiFi is a nice addition, but it needs the fastest network to really benefit from this DL only platform. Have you seen the size of the games downloaded from the PSN? Not to mention the price range on a product this advanced...at least $400 to $600, easily. And who is this product aimed at? Gamers? Tech junkies? People with money to just burn for another product that may be obsolete within a couple of months? Sorry, Sony. I'll stick with my old-ass PSP 1001. You can keep your PSPhone.
