Petition saves violent games from German banhammer

In light of the videogame-linked crimes committed in Germany, Bundestag ministers proposed a national banhammer back in June to rid the nation of the purchase and development of violent video games. Thanks largely to a petition, that ban will not be implemented in the country anytime soon.

The petition, reportedly 73,000 signatures strong, was taken up to the Committee of Petitions where it proposed more education on the media instead of closing it out entirely with a banhammer. Perhaps influenced by the strength and resolution of this movement, Parliament State Secretary Dr. Herman Kues announced there will be no bans enacted, and the government will instead focus on pushing for more education about the existing PEGI system.

Germany is still banning or trying to ban MMA too.

This article is flawed... Germany has its own rating system (USK), so nobody cares about PEGI (rest of europe) here. The USK is a little bit more strikt than the PEGI system but it think the ratings are accurate and fair. Problem is, if (and only if) the USK refuses to rate a game (because of to cruel and unjustifiable violence), another board (BPJM) can blacklist it and therefore ban any advertising. It is however still legal to buy it "under the counter" or import it from switzerland or austria.

The proposed band was an election campaign of the conservative Party (CDU) in order to get the stupid/ignorant people vote.

This is something that puzzles me so much. These politicians go crazy, absolutely crazy, over video games, because they think that they cause violence. There is no proof, just thought, but thats enough to convince these guys to flip over it. If there this concerned about the people being exposed to things potentially dangerous, why not ban religion? Its not just a simple myth but a fact that religion CAUSES violence, hatred, murder, etc. I guarantee if we ban religion the world will be far far far less violent, so why don't these "caring" politicians work on that instead of trying to ban something that may not hurt anyone in anyway?

man i´m livin in germany and i hate this country... they are censurin enything in bloody games and the biggest shit is that they aren´t using PEGI..
