Pachter: Gears of War exclusivity will cost Microsoft more |

Epic Games brought Microsoft a lot of money with the Gears of War series and it stands as one of the most successful exclusives on the Xbox 360. Epic Games and Microsoft have had a healthy relationship up to this point, but according to Michael Pachter, Microsoft will have to cough up more if they want Gears of War to remain exclusive.
Looking back to January earlier this year, Pachter made himself clear that he believed Microsoft had a contract to make sure Gears stays exclusive. “I was on Bonus Round a while ago saying that I thought that Epic regretted making Gears of War for the Xbox 360 and I was quickly corrected by Mark Rein who said we don’t regret a single thing,” Pachter said about the issue.
"Of course they don’t “regret” because they’re all very wealthy and they cut themselves a great deal. I guess what I really meant was future versions of Gears are at least going to be negotiated to allow them to make them all multiplatform, unless Microsoft pays even more," said the Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst.
So far, so good for Microsoft. Gears of War 3 remains exclusive, at least for now.

MS is beginning to loose their top games one by one. This gen Sony added 3 new BIG franchises(Resi stance, LBP and Uncharted. MS on the other hand are loosing their 3rd party devs. Without Halo, Mass Effect and Gears, I don't think the next Xbox will do as good.

look at splinter cell no one really cared about it before now its a 360 exclusive it is the 'best game' lol. Basically if a failing or new company wants its ip to succeed all they need to do apart from creating a playable game is release it exclusively on the 360 the hype dogs will take care of the rest.
the other posters are also right MS has to subsidise the potential profit that might be gained from a multiplat release hence the $50 million dollar payouts etc.
plus this is one of the franchises MS can't afford to lose. If that goes then all they have left is halo, fable and forza.
