1. Pachter: Activision gearing up for paid Call of Duty multiplayer
2. Pachter's take
3. Console switching

Speaking to G4TV, Pachter stated that he's "certain to [his] core" that Beachhead's output will result in paid multiplayer.

"Activision said they are working on 'value added, premium content that is exclusive,'" the analyst explained. "How do you exclude people unless you do it on the basis of whether they pay or not? What are you going to have a bouncer in front of the club where you play the content? The only way it's exclusive is if it excludes non-paying members."

Speaking of payment, Pachter even threw in his own idea of how Activision would handle the pricing strategy for Beachhead's paid content.

"The exclusive content could be pay as you go, or monthly. Let's say Project Beachhead comes up with 'Call of Duty Universe,' and it launches with Modern Warfare 3 and they say 'if you join here's all the exclusive content and exclusive weapons and we'll charge you a dollar a piece.'

"Or If they say, 'for $5 a month you get unlimited weapons and all the map packs we bring out for Modern Warfare in perpetuity,' a lot of people will say, 'I'm going to buy three map packs for 15 dollars anyway, so for $60 a year, I'm getting all the unlimited weapons and achievements,' so they could do that.

"I don't know if that's what they're going to choose to do. I'd say $5 a month is reasonable, though."

If the price is right, if there's new content released regularly and if they use dedicated servers instead of having one of the people host the game then I might think about it. I am getting sick of the COD franchise, they really need to do something new with the next one IMO.

Yeah my same thoughts. I don't think the CoD series will survive that much longer. 1 or 2 more games and it will fall.

$5 is not reasonable. $2 is not reasonable. $1 is not reasonable. 50 cents is not reasonable. 1 cent is not reasonable. If they are not going to be reasonable, then neither shall I! The next game will cost enough as it is,let alone adding $ more onto it. Only for that to be wasted upon their next-next iteration

They are letting success go to their heads. I boycotted Black Ops, this one seems so too.

I don't think xbox 360 owners are going to like this. Having to pay for live already and now this.

I'm really sick of Activision now. I feel bad for 360 users, because they're already paying a monthly subscription for playing online. Just because you get over 800,000 players on Call of Duty, doesn't mean that you should charge them to play online even though they have WELL over enough money then they need. They are showing that they love the money more than the customers, which shouldn't be the case.

I own an Xbox, and I pay for my online play. Don't get me wrong, I don't begrudhe it, it's a decent enough service (I haven't used PSN so I cannot comment on that) But why should we have to pay to play an online game online. And lest face it, it's gonna cost about £45 to buy the game as it is! They're just milking the cash cow dry now..

Do you know what the ironic art of this debate is? that all the people who are bitching about the idea are the same people who will rush to pay once it comes out.

next in their "BRIGHT IDEA'S" Book is paid for bug fixes, game dc's every match $20 for a "fix", oh whats that we forgot to include a map on the disk and it crashes the game if you choose it, yeah thats $30, they really are going to milk this dry, but one thing they gotta realise is all the people who play cod are kids who get their mum to get them an xbox live card, im afraid 90% of their playes dont have a credit card and im pretty sure most parents dont want to give their bank details to their 13 year old kid

Honestly, if COD will turn into a mmo with montly fee, it will die for me, i pay xbox live and i dont think to overcharge it with more fees. Fortunatelly, COD has decent competition, like medal of honor, halo, unreal, and crysis. I don't think the would be so fool and greedy enough to do that nonsense with the COD franchise.... But....

"Natural evolution"? So now CoD is Pokemon? Will it turn into MagiKoD? I think I'll pass on this, Black Ops was the last straw, they want you to pay extra money for a franchise they could care less about. This is why you shouldn't be able to make games or manage franchises if all you care about is the money, it should be to make customers happy. Industries just aren't like they used to be...

At least when you buy a car/tv or whatever the more they sell the cheaper they get, but Activision will just charge as much as they can possibly get away with, i mean i can see £70+ for MW3. And after Black Ops success i'm sure they gonna suck every bit of revenue possible from the next one knowing very well they gonna murder the franchise with excessive greed. I'm really starting to miss EA as the top megadeveloper because they were never this bad.

Pretty sure Activision does not have rights to the Modern Warfare name. The 2 former CEO's of Infinity Ward took that with them.

:-| Yeah and you can blame it on the kids with filthy words as well as disgusting Emblem's in Black Ops! PS3! this is why! Activision is getting sick in tired of the complaint's coming in on there phone line's as well as on the forum's about the losers hacking & cheating on the Call Of Duty server's! Well I would tell them that it's your fault for not fixing Call Of Duty in the first place :P. But will it fade away in 2011-2012?.. Charge to play is the only option right now but don't have crappy server's! Dedicated is a must! Ban people like they do on Xbox Live! PSN is a complete Joke as we speak..

IF this happens it will be the single dumbest thing I have ever seen. No, not because Activision would actually do this, but because morons would actually pay for it.

It's almost unfathomable how people would let this go on... if this happens, I only hope the majority of the gaming world will see what a fucking joke this is.

Activision has made BILLIONS upon BILLIONS of dollars off of the COD franchise already. They could easily afford to provide dedicated servers for all their COD games across all platforms... Sony can do it for Socom... MAG... Resistance... and those games have not generated even a fraction of the profit Activision has made off of all the COD games.

Yet instead they would CHARGE people to play online instead? I bet the servers would STILL not be dedicated. You know why? Because they know people will still buy it anyways.

I honestly hope that there are enough sane people on this planet that will boycott this if it ever happens. If not, you might as well take gaming, turn it around, and fuck it in the ass... because more and more developers will pull more and more shit like this if Activision gets away with this.

Please people... for the love of all that is gaming... don't let this happen.

I still miss the original Infinity Ward studio. Modern Warfare is so much superior to the CoD games made by Treyarch.

I haven't bought black ops and I don't think that I will.

Activision is just further exploiting the Cod fan base for extra bucks. And its not fair that 360 owners will pay for extra subscription to play their CoD game.

Fux you Kotick! I hope that Infinity rapes you in the lawsuit like you deserve it.

Treyarch is just a stand-by studio to let IW take their time making the real COD

as a XBL subscriber, i wont mind maybe paying extra to play online with it, but for 1, its gotta hella lot better then black ops, 2 their MUST be dedicated servers, and 3 if it will limit the amount of dumb@sses that play online miltiplayer
when i got black ops i had it for 2 days, i didnt like it to begin with because of the corny graphics, but when the room lag'd out because of the host, that was the last straw, i WILL NOT buy another CoD unless there is dedicated servers
i dont mind paying for dedicated servers, you cant go wrong with dedicated servers
