NPD names the ten best selling games of 2010

The NPD has finished crunching the numbers and the results are in - these are the ten top-selling games of 2010. You can probably guess which one took the top honors, but there are still nine other spots to fight over. Who's #2 to #10? You'll find out here.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - PS3, Xbox 360, PC
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood - PS3, Xbox 360
NBA 2K11 - PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PSP, PS2

All physical content purchased in the US in 2010 rang up a total of US$ 10.1 billion in the United States, a 5% decline from 2009's 10.6 billion. The NPD, however, notes an increase in used game sales, downloads for full games, DLC, mobile gaming apps, and social network games.

The Wii is actually a fun platform, but the thing about it though is you usually need to have a couple other people playing with you too. The Wii is also more focused on physical activity and multiplayer, not online multiplayer (though there are indeed plenty of games that support this). I'm not really surprised to see Mario up there or Wii Fit. Also not surprised to see Reach up there either. I am surprised that with all these "hit" PS3 titles, not one made it on the list.

Its like a board game that you pull out and dust off when friends come over. Other than Nintendo made games most of my friends only have a few garbage shovelware titles.

what good hit ps3 exclusive game are you reffering to? i made 2 purchases for ps3 this year black ops and metal gear solid 4 there was not big hits but even tho reach sold well if u look how many people played it on launch compared to know it was like around 700,000 at start now its around 100,000 lol kinda sad but its true call of duty have taken over both ps3 and xbox that is for sure

I was being sarcastic. The grand ol war between brands always includes the platform-exclusives, yet none from PS3 showed up here. Though it is sad for the 360 as well that only Halo had a chance... I figured Gran Turismo would've made it but guess that didn't happen.

Gran Turismo hasn't really been out that long. All of these games (minus Black Ops) have been out for months.. at least I'm pretty sure

correct me if I'm wrong but npd just tracks america which is the ps3's weakest region so anyone expecting ps3 games on this list should take that into account.

True true.

In US, Xbox 360 has most of the power and Wii.

Outside, PS3 is very well known and it bugs me that I go to foreign countries and rarely find any Xbox 360 games for sale.

So, a US centric poll rates a largely indifferent selection of games in their top ten ? And they wonder why people think they're insular ?

Add in to the mix

UC2 - PS3 exclusive
GT5 - possibly one of the biggest selling games of all time (outside the US of course)
LBP - Again, a PS3 exclusive

Taking nothing away from Halo, or the Wii titles, that's still a woefully inadequate poll.
