The NPD group has recently published its hardware and software video game sales result for the month of January, showing a 5 percent dropped in industry sales compared to the same month last year, going from US$ 1.22 billion to US$ 1.16 billion.

Various sectors of the industry took a plunge, with the hardware department taking a major blow, raking in only US$ 324 million, down 8 percent compared to last years result. On the software department, industry sales for this month totaled US$ 603.1 million from US$ 644.9 million in January 2010, a drop of 6 percent.
