November NPD sales: hardware and software numbers |
Listed in: PSP, Wii, PS3, Nintendo DS, Xbox 360, PC Gaming Tags: Nintendo, NPD
Ó
The November NPD results are in and we have the numbers. This months hardware and software sales is reported to be the second best November in history with the Nintendo platforms still leading the hardware department with the Xbox 360 back in third place. On the software side, as expected, Modern Warfare 2 tops the charts with a whooping 6 millions copies sold on the PS3 and Xbox 360.
According to NPD’s Anita Frazier:
The industry declined 7.6% versus last November, but still produced enough revenue to make this month the second-best November in industry history. YTD the industry is still up 7% over 2007. I think we all have to realize the incredible year that was 2008.
Check out the full numbers below:

Honestly, I expected them to be real close. But the MW2 sales really surprised me. So many people are paying for XBL no wonder it has more content. But, this console war is still pretty even to me, although I still prefer PS3 exclusives. People need to get past the fanboyism and love both the systems and their flaws(Except RRoD M$ suck major balls for that).

xbox 360: 6.2m
ps3 : 4.2m
I can maybe see 2m more units sold on the xbox since december 1st till now, but the ps3 numbers over doubling seems odd. I would have expected more of a 1.9m to 2.8m jump if it followed the same trend as the xbox 360. So the question is.... do you trust the publisher or NPD?

I guess the 2m surge in xbox360 sales could be explained by the ban hammer MS tried to launch on the day Mw2 came out and the fact it took a good 2 weeks for some kind of work around

I think that's a good thing, there have been more great games this gen than any other single gen before. I doubt that's just a coincidence with the increased competition.
So long as good games keep getting made and advances in tech keep happening, I'm happy. I just watched somebody play the Avatar game on a 3D TV with the headgear and everything, it's mind blowing. Can't wait till that becomes the norm, it's as big as the change from black n white to color, no joke

If anything, 360 performance is pathetic here.
If HUGE MW2 bundles, killer exclusives on 360 (Left 4 Dead 2 comes to my mind) and indirect pricecuts (The wallmart 100 dollar gift cards) was just barely enough to come ahead of PS3, then MS fanboys should be worried here.

LMAO @ all the PS3 Fanboy excuses... pirating games.... stupid.

I want also a 360 oh and a Wii.

And you can quit the fanboy crap from the xbox, anyone with half a brain can realize that that the xbox has 35million units out while the ps3 has about 28million and as great as the ps3 is, it cant compete with those numbers.
6.2m/35m = 18% of all xbox owners legally bought the game
4.2m/28m = 15% of all ps3 owners bought it
fanboy crap aside, I would say the game sold equally well on both platforms if both platforms had about 15% of thier customer base buying the game.

Do you remember the "banhammer"? Well I would say a whole bunch of existing 360 owners bought new consoles and unloaded their old banned doorstops. Good enough answer for you Haru?

Competition is what is driving all the developers to really work hard to make good games, and it keeps both Sony and Microsoft working extra hours to figure ways to keep us happy. If one console dominated one true driver in innovation and customer satisfaction would be gone. This is basic market behavior. So when you see 1 month xbox ups ps3 and the next the ps3 ups xbox, either, you are a xbox-faboy or ps3-fanboy be VERY happy that your company will have to work extra hard to keep you happy.

Christ above. They banned 100k consoles, didn't they? Yet even if that is taken into account (if you believe 100k people just went out and replaced their systems) then the Xbox still sold more.
Fanboys irk me. The Xbox sold more. The Slim pushed the PS3 ahead for a bit but it's now back to business as usual. And the difference between the 360/PS3 sales of MW2 highlights this. They're both great systems but for the love of god... the PS3 still costs more and still has less games than the Xbox 360. Until that changes the Xbox will always jump ahead again.

Oh and worldwide data is online. Last weeks (this is worldwide);
DS 1.7million
Wii 1.06million
PS3 763k
Xbox 472k
PSP 325k

Barely? lol The PS3 had some great bundles like infamous+batman . The 360 bundle included only Pure and lego batman yet it outsold the PS3 for more than 100k+. Let's face it, not everyone bought the PS3 for playing games. They bought it because of bluray(reason why PS3 software sales are low.)

I suppose the ps3 will sell more early 2k10 with those games, but they should advertise them more to sell the ps3 systems. Even if they're not out, they should make ads saying all those are coming soon.
Anyway, like I said, I have both consoles, but still I loved my xbox 360 last summer, and then... a big stop in the games. I only bought PS3 games after the summer, and I'll only buy ps3 exclusives in the next 6 months (says the "upcoming games" lists on both consoles), so I can't understand why people still buy the xbox 360.
