Nomura: Don't expect a Final Fantasy VII remake, there won't be one |

Hoping for a Final Fantasy VII remake, aren't you? Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it's not gonna happen. You don't have to take my word for it, though. You can take Tetsuya Nomura's instead.
The Square Enix big man crushed every FF fans' dream when he stressed to Japanese magazine Famitsu that there won't be a revival of the said classic anytime soon, so it'd be best for them not to expect.
News too depressing for you? To balance things out though, the magazine feature isn't all grey skies. It does talk about Cloud Strife's humble beginnings, even providing information on the exact year he was born, as well as the rest of the cast's. That'll have to do for now.

Oh he does, he just knows how to play the game, make the people wait and they'll pay anything when he reveals its really going to happen.

Apparently you don't know much about business. FF7 remake would obviously be a huge cash cow, why use it now when you've already got a flood of money flowing in from FF13 & everything else coming out that doesn't have Crystal Chronicles in its name?
Don't expect it "anytime soon" doesn't mean it's not possible, it's that it's not worth it now. And any "fans won't want it as much anymore" talk is bull, nostalgia is a very effective & often used money-making device.

It's not about money, i think the reputation, and his personal feelings on the work is the issue about not making it, and i actually agree with him to a degree.
Many FF fans consider VII as the best of the series, maybe the best RPG ever. As of now, it stands as an icon, and Cloud is looked at as the 'star' of the series. If a remake was made, that changed the story everyone loved, or gameplay elements were switched that people did not like, the original would lose it's reputation. No matter how good it was, it would never compare to the original, because it is with most of our childhoods/teenage years.
i would love to see a remake, but if it was made differently, and I didn't like it, i would probably be turned off of the series (12 wasn't my fav, and 13 has some issues i don't agree with)

I'm not prepared to fund a jerk that knows what people want, yet screws with them at every turn. Heck it's probably for the best. I bet VII was a fluke, considering every FF after it was terrible.

He does know what people want, and that's a good game. He just also happens to know a remake of FF7 wouldn't make a very good game. Since well, we already have FF7 on PS1 or from the PSN. Honestly what more do we need?

That's kind of dumb to say, just keep the game simple I don't see how someone can fail at reproducing a remake if you just don't add any changes to the game element. You make it sound like if he makes it he some how has to make it better then the original but that's the point we don't want anything "new" or "improved" we just want the original story, quest, enemies, everything FFVII offered with new graphics and sound. If I was leading the project I would copy everything I did back in 97 and just mixed it with the new graphics it used in FFVII:AC that's all nothing new. I mean I want to go back to Cosmo Canyon and see the same characters in the same place but with PS3 hardware, again I don't see how someone can fail at doing this the story is already finished that's like half of the job done there. I feel that he's holding out cause no matter what if he creates a remake of 7 everyone and their grandmothers will buy this game no doubt about it.

Screw a remake of 7, I'd rather have Square do a remake of Rad Racer.

But Advent Children DID destroy my preconception of Cloud being a tough, distant person, and made him the poster boy for what is apparently an emo pop band.
From what I gather, there is still one last sequel to the FFVII series. Taking into account the events from Dirge of Cerberus and Crisis Core, respectively.
Because let's face it. As much as I don't want an unnecessary remake. I still won't stop me from buying it.
The most deserving remake, IMOP. Is still FFVI. There were plans for a 3D remake since the N64. Let's just do it, already!.
Of course, I wouldn't mind Chrono Trigger, either.

I have seen many remakes change just to bring in the new era gamers and still keep the classic gamers happy and comfortable. some succeed, some don't. If Noruma really cares about the FF Franchise more than the money, Then compromising a remake of a holy grail would break his heart just as much as it would me and alot of classic gamers out there.
This era of gaming is too critical. It would be better to keep the magic that FFVII has in it's snug PS1 discs. It's just better that way.

Nobody else liked these?
Play the re1 on ps1, then play the gamecube one, yes they did change some of the story, but they added so much more, new spins on old puzzles along with entire new areas of the map. And parts of the story genuinely gave you that butt cheek clinching fear, that we so nostalgically remembered from the first one (remember before you passed it for the 19th time, and you didn't know what was around that corner?)
I F#@%ing hated those crimson head zombies.... >_<

Innovation is great, but if you make such big changes then change the name too! It's not FF anymore... it's just wierd action-jrpg-things. They just keep dumbing the franchise down so even the most retarded people can play them easily!
What's wrong with controlling 4 party members and a round-based battle system?! If I want to play an action game, I play an action game, not a rpg!

It was nothing more than a tech demo, and no one even cared about a remake until they saw the demo. All the FFVII side-stories and prequels were just SE's way of saying "Shut the hell up already!" because people wouldn't stop sending death threats and personal requests for new FFVII material. Just leave the damn game alone already and move on.

they should re-do VI if any of them. Now that game was pure badass.

It's amazing that FF7 has maintained the kind of following it has for so long and I don't necessarily think it should be put to rest, but a lot of the charm of the original game (or playing it as a teenager, as I and many others here did) cannot be reproduced.
If anything, all it needs is a couple of bugfixes and maybe analogue support - something they probably could have done when re-releasing it on PSN, but hey - and it'd pretty much be perfect.
