Money talks, and in the case of Obsidian's spy-themed RPG Alpha Protocol, it's telling publisher Sega not to make a sequel. Sega West president Mike Hayes told CVG that although the concept behind the game was "brilliant", the sales numbers just haven't met their expectations.

"Let’s speak very commercially; the game hasn’t sold what we’ve expected, therefore we won’t be doing a sequel,” he said. "The concept was brilliant, though. "You know this whole thing with Metacritic where you have to be in the high 70s to mid-80s minimum [to have any success] – well, with RPGs you have got to be in the late 80s."

"Whilst we had a good game, I don't think we had a game that had enough to get us to that upper echelon and I think that was the issue."

Too bad. I really hoped this game would at least be moderately successful.

Sega needs to do what they do best, which is make crazy ass games. They used to push the envelope, but ever since they were bought out by Sammy, they crank out shitty Sonic titles, game collections and, well, that's about it... I hope the new Virtual On kicks ass. That may be the closest we good to the good old days of Sega for awhile.

Its got nothing to do with metacritic... it's got to do with the large amount of glitchy problems people have had with it and the word spread that it may not be worth $60.
