No Boot to Disc in new Xbox 360 Dashboard update, Microsoft issues workaround

The new Xbox 360 Dashboard update has a lot of cool new things like ESPN, a streamlined Netflix search, and improved voice chat. One thing that's not so welcome is that the update did away with the Boot to Disc option. Major Nelson has revealed that this feature will be back in a future update, but for now you'll have to go through a few extra steps if you want to use it.

A temporary workaround has been detailed on Microsoft's support page. Booting to disc isn't the only issue, apparently, as booting to Media Center Extender on startup has also been affected. For now, you'll have to use the Dashboard to launch the current disc or start Media Center extender.

To launch the current disc

Go to My Xbox
Select the first panel to Play Disc

To Launch Media Center extender

Go to My Xbox
Select Windows Media Center

It is hard to look at, it is really bright on a 42" tv. Plus yesterday i lost all my avatar clothes and it wasnt til today that they loaded back up. Another Complaint is the friend browser, i dont like that you can only see 2 friends at a time. Overall i don't like it and i hope they make some changes to it soon.

Microsoft stopped improving things sometime before they released the Xbox. Since then, everything new theyve made has been worse than what was before. Just look at 360, Vista, 7, etc etc etc. Everything theyve made has been terrible. And it always will be. Microsoft is a company that needs to be destroyed for the betterment of mankind. Apple too.

I liked the NXE update when that rolled out and I like Win7.
Vista on the other hand is arguably as bad as Millennium Edition.

If Microsoft is such a bad company, why does it exist?

Oh piss off, win7 is fine and the original xbox was far from great, the only good thing about it was gta3. pull your head out your backside.

I don't like how I have to exit the game to turn on Mp3 while playing while back in the old on we can just simply turn it on while playing now we have to exit the game turn the mp3 on than go back in game. Not much of a hassle but I would like to see that feature come back.

Video Codec I seem as been completely wiped I can't watch my previous purchases on my computer on my XBOX 360 any more. (AVI files). Which is really upsetting. I hope they fix that issue as well.

But I really don't look at the dashboard because I am either in game or watching a movie. Could care less how it looks I just want the support back with the Music and Movies.

I honestly could care less about that feature since I usually fool around on the dashboard a bit before I play.

Microsoft wouldn't be competitive in the console market today if it wasn't for the Halo franchise they had bought out exclusivity from Bungie. If they hadn't Halo would have been first out on PC like every other popular first person shooter out at the time.

what's everyone bitching about? i think it looks much better, the older one looked horrible, it only appealed to people under 12, it looked like was designed by kid!

this new one looks much more professional, and if its too bright LOWER THE FUCKING BRIGHTNESS you morons!

AVI films not working? lie's its working FINE for me, clean your discs, and realize that just because its in AVI format, doesn't mean its been encoded the same as your other files, the 360 inly has a small amount of the codecs used by computers, after all it is a GAMES CONSOLE!

in other words, grow a brain and use it, im tired of hearing people saying "it doesn't work!!!" when these idiots haven't done ANY research...

Exactly! The new dashboard is much better than the old one. The professional look feels better and the load times are amazing compared to the old one. They got rid of what wasn't needed and made the dashboard better to look at. It's personal opinion I guess but I know I really like it and definitely would not want to go back to the old dashboard. Too clunky if you ask me.

MY question is can I use my NXE themes on it without them looking like crap (like from blades to NXE)... (my 360 is dead for now and waiting to buy a new one til i can get my employee discount)
