New Pac-Man project to be unveiled at E3

Here's a juicy little pellet you might want to swallow whole. E3's coming to town and publishers are teasing their big guns one by one. For Namco Bandai, it's going to be a new Pac-Man project.

During the expo period, Namco Bandai will be hosting a private party where executive adviser Avi Arad will be unveiling the new project. Invitations sent to gaming news blogs such as Siliconera read that the reveal is for a "project", so that may not necessarily mean it's going to be a new game.

Theories, anyone?

Namco is going to do something really stupid that makes Pac-man look like he's in Crash Bandicoot: Mind Over mutant playing as a chinese mexican humping creatures under toxic green slime.

In other words, Namco is going to fuck up the Pac-Man series, like they did when they gave pac man the ability to punch

I thought the pacman world games where much better then they got credit for.

But other then a bandicoot/mario type platformer I really cant picture what other genre he would fit into without looking especially arbitrary.

Maybe a gta/simpsons hit & run type deal like symbal says.

Although that wouldn't be exactly shocking or stoking.

I agree. I remember I used to go into the arcades and pump quarters in the machine :3 Space invaders was a favorite of mine as well. Geez...I miss the old stuff. Anything after the 32-bit generation sucks D:

no joke...

in the old days devs had to be creative with the little processing power they had.

This resulted in games that weren't perfect but felt "complete" games had a certaint warmth.

nowadays all creativity is pumped into generic level design, a lot of games have orchestrated music, and the same game mechanics.

the old days were much better.

don't get me wrong i have a ps3 and a 360 so i'm moving on with my time. but the amount of games that have that "warmth" like in the old days are very little.

i miss it

you brought back to my mind the memory of an "addicted gamer" from like two decades ago. in a club there was this huge table-console that consisted in not more that LEDs, white leds, all of them, and they were displaced in circle to make a racing circuit. and there was the racing car, resembling some crude F1 car, but made of a few "pixels", and the sides of the circuit, two continuous lines. and a counter, if i remember right, keeping track of how long you ran, how fast and such things. and i remember the player and the few of his friends (i was a 10, they were "adults", i suppose they had like 20 or so): he was so involved in the action, i just couldn't understand why, but i liked to watch the "racing", and those friends around him reacted to his driving, good or bad, just like it was a footbal game or such thing! so yeah, those were the times, nowadays games are more like good looking than functional, and we all know that beauty is skin deep and fades faster than fast.

Pac-Man has the potential to become a good project if done right. I think that a powerup ability similar to Kirby's(like swallowing ability pellets) and a good adventure setup similar to Zelda's but with a darker tone and more frightening looking ghosts. About Pac-Man looks, if they stick to a pac-man with legs then a character model that has a feel similar to Sonic's cartoony simplistic model would be good. If they go the "leg less" way then a more "ethereal" character model more like a shining orb would be good.

yes if they stick with the limbs they should do the former.

if they don't it might be a good idea to think of an alternative art style, really spooky, weird, beautiful stuff. weird colors, spacy music and random sound effects.

i dont know about you guys, but 3d pacman isnt pacman to me. you can only do so much with a game like pacman.

Isn't that time-line backwards? I'm 34 and I watched that cartoonish pacman as a kid. The 3D pacman didn't come out until way later.
