Beginning today, Netflix subscribers with a PS3 or Nintendo Wii will now be able to stream contents directly from the Netflix library, without the need of inserting the Netflix disc on their respective consoles. According to Netflix, PS3 and Wii owners, who are Netflix subscribers, can now download the update from the PlayStation Store or the Wii Shop channel and enjoy streaming movies and TV shows instantly.

Moreover, a  new user interface was also added that promises to significantly improve your viewing experience. The new applications will allows users "to search for content directly from the device and you’ll also be able to view an increasing portion of our content library with subtitles or alternate audio tracks. There is even more good news for PS3 owners: starting today you’ll be able to instantly watch some movies and TV shows in 1080p high definition with Dolby 5.1 channel surround sound."

Thanks to David for the tip!

Their content offerings are not bad by any means and are growing all the time. Considering this started as a free add on to their mailed disc subscription, what it has turned into is nothing short of impressive.

Very good news indeed! The PS3 is becoming more and more of a 1 person star as time goes on.

I LOVE IT. I use netflix streaming everyday on the ps3 and i have to say this app is by far 10x better than the disc. the movies and tv shows load up in under 10 seconds (used to take like 30secs-1min), theres a sneak preview screen, the QUALITY is practically perfect...i see no blurry internet connection quality problems anymore. its perfect. thanks netflix/sony!

Again... why is this just being announced now? I've had the Netflix icon on my XMB for a while now, I even did the netflix trial thing to test it out. while it is nice, I wouldn't pay for it.

Yes, but the PS3 and Wii just now got built-in streaming. This article isn't about the 360, which did indeed have it since the dashboard update.
