Even after getting her little sister back, Lightning still doesn't seem to have lightened up. She's still a lot like how we remember her in XIII, but there will be some differences in how she is portrayed in the next game. For one thing, her rosy motiff - the one in her Crystarium and Odin summoning - is replaced with feathers.
According to Toriyama, this is symbolic of how Lightning approaches a god in the game. After all, she is now the hero that saved the world. As Toriyama jests, Lightning may be a little more exposed now, but they wanted to preserve the noble and elegant feel she had in the Final Fantasy XIII. Now, she has a more fantasy-like theme with her armor and weapon design.

What about the others? They'll be back for the direct sequel and they'll have undergone "major and unexpected changes." You will also be meeting some new ones as well. Toriyama asks the fans to wait for updates on that end.
Gameplay-wise, there's a revised travel system and the world will be full of people. Perhaps this is a much less linear game this time? As for those who played Final Fantasy XIII, they're still trying to figure out if they'll be giving out bonuses.

It's because a lot of fans all over the world didn't appreciated it well. sales didn't meet expectations. so we needed to milk it more.

The length of time needed the last time definitely has something to do with the 360 version.
