Monster Hunter Portable 3rd gave PSP sales a major boost

Monster Hunter Portable 3rd put up monster numbers in Japan, dominating the Media Create software sales chart. No surprises there, but the major release didn't just benefit Capcom, it also helped the PSP move an amazing amount of units with a limited edition model. Now how many did those specially-designed PSPs sell?

Based on Media Create's numbers, the PSP sold a whopping 323,653 units in the week that Monster Hunter Portable 3rd came out. Of those, 166,000 units were the "Hunter's Model" PSP-3000. That's about half the week's total.

What's so special about it? The model sports an improved concave analog nub for easier traction and control. It also has a larger battery capacity for extra lengthy monster-hunting. Yeah, even non-Monster Hunter players would want one of those. It's also interesting to note that this particular PSP was not bundled with the game - both had to be purchased separately.
